Just like to show my latest, ( and most expensive , to date ) addition to my starters collection. It's a 7/8 wedge smiling razor by Joseph Rodgers and sons. with horn scales.
Could anyone advise on how to date these razors? I've downloaded the history of the Joseph Rodgers business but this doesn't tell you about dating products.

Nice. It looks like it might be a bastard to hone, though.
Does it give a country of manufacture on the tang? Pre-1891 products won’t have a country of origin, post 1891 will, that's about all I know about dating them.
Yes Carl, made in Sheffield pre 1891, honing it will require a leading heel rolling x pattern, or so I'm informed, tricky but practice makes perfect, I hope.

Just shaved with my new Joseph Rodgers razor. Used Crabtree n Evelyn Nomad shave soap after a hot shower and after using the 3 pass method had a wonderfully smooth finish followed by C n E balm.
Really pleased with the results

Well this Joseph Rodgers below is very similar and i snipped this from the description
"most likely about 1875, give or take 10 years. The blade shape, with the bow shaped blade, the wide cut out of the blade point, the hump back tang shape and the short monkey tail, indicate a certain fabrication process from the mid to late 1800's."
