Wow Obie your shave den is what all of ours aspires to be. Id kill for that square footage.
Simply wonderful
I'm afraid my lather would get cold, before I could choose which razor to use.
Would you like to adopt a 27 yr old man? I am really good at drinking beer and watching football.
Oh, my shave ritual every morning has a system.
After I get out of bed and make the coffee I prepare the shave den for the shave. First, the day's strop gets a hand rubdown. Then I choose the razor for the day and wipe the oil from the blade. Sometimes I strop the razor then and other times I strop it after the first lather and before the shave. Then comes the soap or cream selection and the brush. Fresh face, razor wiping and razor cleaning towels are brought out. After a cup or two of coffee and a visit with the New York Times, the Washington Post and several on-line political sites, then comes the shower. On the way to the shower the Moss Scuttle is filled with hot water and the brush placed in it, the lather bowl is filled with hot water to warm up, and the hard soap is topped with hot water to soften up.
Is this heaven or what?
That is one serious "Shave Ritual". :rofl2:
That is one awesome shave den! Sometimes I wish I was a bachelor again.......
The dearly beloved, who is an angel, has given me that entire bathroom to use as my shave den. We have two in my humble condo. She even offers useful decorating and practical suggestions about the setup. She uses the other bathroom. Sometimes she looks at the razors, soaps and creams and says, "They grow like rabbits." She then rolls her eyes, smiles and shuffles off. An angel, indeed.
A wonderful space you have carved out for yourself there! Nicely stocked and organized to boot!
Out of curiosity, why do you store your razors blade up/tail down?
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I enjoy the space immensely. As I noted earlier, I keep the soaps and creams, about 30 in the rotation, in the open closet next to the sink — my Soap Cave — and take out the soap or cream I need for that morning's shave.
As for storing my razors with the tang down, it's a force of habit. Also, in a practical sense, that way minute amount of oil on the blade and the shank trickles down to the pivot and keeps it lubricated and helps prevent rust from developing. Of course, I keep the scales and the pivot area completely dry during the shave. Still, a wee bit of lubrication never hurts.
I'm moving next week, planning on buying a house, and my GF and I have already made a similar arrangement... I didn't even have to justify claiming a bathroom for myself because she actually brought it up first! (Ironically its not because of my shaving stuff, its because she is a bathroom hog in the morning.) either way, win-win!
Very nice set- up Obie, thats a lot of counter space, that most of us crave for. Nervertheless thanks for sharing!
