My latest Acquisition or why i love my local Flea Market

I dont know why, but there are somedays our Flea Market offers nothing of interest, but there are also some days you feel as if theres a Razor & Sahving outbreak, today it was such a day, if i had wanted i had could buy around fourty Razors (many Weltmeisters, some ERN´s, a couple of Dovos and Koellers) but only these two (and the nice lil Culmak Junior Bristle) a Fram 89 13/16" with very thin grounded Blade and a F. Klein 13/16" Silberstahl had been good enough :)

Of course, theres just some work to do (cleaning, sharpening, rectifying the scales of the Fram) but i guess it was a good deal for about 40$.

I hope they live up to their promise, by the Fram i know that it is a very good razor but the F.Klein is new to me,
i have a Heinrich Klein Chronik that is one of my best 1/1 Hollow Razor, i hope that the F. Klein will be similar.

Chronix was a trademark of F.Klein and after him of Heinrich Klein, so definately something very similar, F. Klein was the owner of a salon in Berlin, he invented Kleinoil, so more then likely he was not the maker.

Friedrich Klein was the antecessor of Heinrich Klein, wow, than my razor cant be bad, cant wait to sharpen it :cool::rolleyes:

Frankfurt a/m has a great flea market every Saturday along the main river, I miss Germany:-(

Around Duisburg / Moers where i come from there are around 10 - 15 Flea Markets each Weekend, some are small with much of cheap new-wares but most are a bit bigger with much of junk and antique things, its possible to make great deals there but there are also days you find nothing, its just a matter of luck.

Congrats on the finds. My city is picked over with nary a straight razor to be found here, so when I read stories like this the jealousy starts to creep up lol

Cant imagine how flea markets in the US could be, arent there many flea markets or is the availability of razors not so good there?

Seems that the german flea markets have been fruitfull for some members today. These are my finds today. Two Schulzes in quite good shape for about 30 $.

Actually, I'm Canadian :)

It's not that there are no flea markets or antique shops (there are quite a few), just no razors to be found here. Perhaps there just isn't a supply of them anymore. As well, there are several SRP and B&B members that live in Edmonton, that might have something to do with it too... :gaah:

Not too unusual a situation having driven from T Bay to your neck of the woods and back for holidays and finding very little that was any good available. Seems the last year has seen an upsurge of interest in straights by the younger crowd according to the sellers I was talking to. Slim picking indeed.

I have to friends of mine that are also collectors and in our german forum and i know, if they post they had been on a flea market of our region that i dont have to go there cause everything is sold :D

I think people in the US have been buying razors for quite a time. There are just fewer to be had today.

Wow, all of those razors are great finds and appear to be in great shape. I have yet to stumble across a razor at a flea market or antique store that was worth a second look. When I do find them they are typically destroyed, yet still overpriced!

When is the SRP members only trip to Germany? With finds like that, the trip would be free.

Does Solingen have an airport?

Hehe, Solingen doesnt has an Airport, but Solingen isnt the right place to search for finds, the Time Solingen offered big finds seems to be long gone, as it is a city whos industry steady dies since 30 Years. The Prices today in Solingen are just the same as the Prices in all the common Webshops, and even on Solingen Flea Markets big deals could be rare, cause where in Germany could a seller better know what he sells as in Germanys former biggest cutlery.

Well we could still tour the Revisor factory, go to the flea markets, and maybe visit a few beer halls.

Revisor Factory? Hope i dont disappoint you but they have no factory, there just a couple of old masters and grinding Bachelors producing Razors as a Reminiscense to keep the Solingen Heritage alive, but they have no factory, they have a big workshop without public admission and no storeroom. But the guys a very cool and theyre doing their best, i hope and wish them that they can keep theire business alive as long as possible, it would be a gigantic miss if they have to clos their workshop some day.
But there are a couple of fine Museums displaying all kinds of cutlery work, especially a big Blacksmiths shop where scissor (and a few Razor) Blankets had been produced and a very old grinding Mill from the 1700s.

The Revisor workshop sounds like a great place to work. They have quite a collection of rarities. Are there still beer gardens over there? In any event, it sounds like a nice place to visit.

Well, could be that there are some Beer Gardens, but Solingen isnt a place that is well known for that so i dont know if there are some good. But Beer Gardens are very common in Germany so i guess that it will dont least a long time to find one in the sourroundings of solingen, a lovely Landscape with hills, woods and creeks.
