The variety and depth of information available on SRP constantly amazes me.
Just looking at recent posts:
- brand new custom razor from CelticCrusader, Bruno and others
- dip at toe stub tail almost 300 years old
- restoration advice supported by a history proving expertise by guys like Outback and Sharptonn and many others
- stropping and honing advice from a bunch of guys
- sales of razors, strops and hones at VERY reasonable prices
- all kinds of side-interest fora that appeal to a wide range of interests
All that and a welcoming, generous and supportive group of gentlemen.
This forum is a treasure. The word is out and we seem to be getting a lot of interest from new and returning wet shavers as a result.
Seems to me that the last month or so has seen a lot of activity from both new members who have moved from lurkers to active participants and from returning members who haven’t posted in a while (for some, quite a long while).
That’s evidence of the usefulness and viability of this group and the positive impression it leaves with the folks who visit SRP. That is directly related to the quality of information available here and the welcoming nature of the folks who provide it.
c'mon...we have a post titled "Just shaved my wife's legs" this is clearly the best site on the internet.
All joking aside, you folks are sincerely, truly, great humans. thank you.
Nine years ago when I decided to try to use my uncle's Genco Grant I went looking online for information. I found another site and while I was able to get the razor honed, I didn't find it very welcoming or willing to answer my questions.:banghead:
Then I found this Wonderful Site! Friendly Welcome. Any question no matter how trivial answered with knowledge--What a Difference!:dropjaw:
Over the years I've made some good friends and have been able to meet many one on one and couldn't have been more pleased. They have ALL been even more pleasant in person than I'd been impressed with here at SRP.
I'm a firm believer in 'Paying it Back/Passing it Forward. I've used what I learned from others to help others. I've worked on hundreds of razors N/C with all it costing guys is shipping to and back.
I have loaned razors and other equipment to help guys learn. On occasion I've been ripped off but they are in the minority. So I continue to help as I can.
Some call this 'A Hobby' and I digress. Collecting razors, hones, strops etc is 'A Hobby' using, and maintaining a straight razor is a 'Way of Life'
A Way Of Life that I love. :y

Ya took the words from my mouth, Roy. It's just incredible.
I agree. I too was in about the same situation as Roy.
I wanted to learn and found that "other" forum. Sure i got some help but the serious questions i had to ask were answered with mixed responces. It made me feel as if there was no answer to my question that was right. Then i noticed not much was going on in that forum about straights. So i looked around and cound srp.
I was welcomed with open arms. Questions answered in full with detail showing me i was talking with someone who really knew the answers. Plus the fact that others agreed with the answers. That made me feel that i had gotten the right answer! So i kept at it. Plus the fact of some guys contacting me by PM and offering help, honing and even razors. It made me feel like i found a great group of guys that cared about me and my learning.
It hard to beat that. In this day and age its next to impossible to find people willing to go out of there way to help you when they don't know you. That says a great deal to the kindness of the people here.
The wealth of knowledge on this forum is unparalleled. Digging through the old threads you can find an answer to any question you might have.
I am so happy I came to SRP when I decided to try SR and always found it very welcoming. The moment I introduced myself I got contacted by 2 mentors here in Minnesota and was able to quickly schedule a one to one session.
Y'all are absolutely right, this is a great forum, and very welcoming.
