Heckel Bros razor

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and I'm trying to find out info on some old razors that were passed down to us. We have two straight razors from my wifes great grandfather from Heckel Bros. Both are ivory, one with fancy detailing on the end. One is engraved with the word MOOR. Her great grandfather died in 1960 so i know they are at least 50 years old. My father in law thinks they are from the early 1900s. What are these worth these days. Do they have more than sentimental value? I know nothing about straight razors and couldn't find anything on ebay or on the web (except for you guys!). Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I am not looking to sell anything, I'm just trying to educate myself on what I have.

I'd suggest that you don't even begin any attempts to clean them yet -- or at least nothing beyond some dish soap and warm (not hot) water, and a cloth, and be very very careful. At that point, dry them off well. leave them in air to dry, not near heat but maybe near a fan. You could then take a few high quality photos of the razors and upload them here for some help from the more experienced members.
Nice find, and I hope you stick around this site and read up on the art of straight shaving -- I bet your wife would be happiest to know that you are shaving with her family heirlooms vs. selling them off later for any amount of money...
