Minor Change To SRP Straight Razor Database

Sub-Categories for every razor brand have now been added.

Hopefully this will make it easier to browse.

You cannot do that. Deletion can only be done by the Wiki admins, for obvious reasons (vandalism). It is gone now.

Log into the Wiki again. You can now delete articles. Let me know when you're done.

Unfortunately not, as it is Mediawiki's default. But we'll try and and come up with another solution using Semantic MediaWiki - semantic-mediawiki.org.

I changed the manufacturer's name of some razors in Geneva Cutlery Co. (before there were 4 different names for the same manufacturer), but now there isn't a subcategory with the same name. How to fix it?

I created the new sub cat for geneva.

If you see a missing category there are 2 ways to create the new sub.

1) Use this link.
Create a category - Straight Razor Place Wiki

Fill in Category Name, IE Geneva Cutlery. and use "Straight Razor Database" as parent category

2) Click on red link for category in on of the pages or type in the address bar
Category:Geneva Cutlery CO - Straight Razor Place Wiki.

Then edit and add the following:

[[Category:Straight Razor Database]]

Unfortunately I cant automate this little piece of pie, so try to keep an eye out for red links when you add.

I will try to see if i can haxor something up, but i want to make sure i do not do anything that affects the rest of the wiki.

I need to go through the entries in their right quick. But it should be o.k. as long as all the pages are pointing to a valid sub-category now.

It's a Wiki. Change is never fatal, as we can roll back everything. I think... ;)

There is an entry for a George Bishop "cutlery manufacturer" in the sheffield directory for (I will look it up again later - 1854)

I thought I had seen an entry for razor manufacturer.... I must look again :)

Well, I think that I don't know what to reply.. eheheh! I can say this: in those "Freedom Books" it seems that the title of "razor maker" was used mainly starting from the very first years of XIX c., while before the most general title of "cutler" was used also for razor making. For instance when George's son Luke was admitted to Freedom (1802) the father George was mentioned as "razor maker", while the entry for George (the father) dating 18 years before mentions that George was apprentice to his father "cutler".

Is it possible to introduce the automatic creation of a new subcategory when a new manufacturer (or a new razor by a new manufacturer) is added to the DB?

[I added some razors but the respective subcategory now is missing].

The razor database is another good place to look
