SRP is now on Twitter

Hi Fellow Tweeters!

If you haven't noticed, dwessell, BeBerlin, and I have started a Twitter account: "SRPforum".

You'll find that we'll be tweeting general announcements just like here in the forum, but we also want to casually post other quick, neat tidbits of shaving-esque text. As we try to find "our voice", so to speak, we're really interested in getting a feel for the types of things shavers here (who are on Twitter) would be interested in following.

We'll be trying new things here or there, so if you see a tweet along the lines of something you would enjoy more often, speak up!

Any discussion/input in this thread would also be greatly appreciated.

Also, as many of you can see on the left hand side of the screen, you are now able to follow a "Tweet Stream". We're currently testing it out, changes to it may occur. Please let us know what you think.

Tweeting Tips

* Follow SRPForum for updates via tweet.
* Find fellow SRP members on twitter.
* Try shortening your URLs by using a shortener like bit.ly
* Consider tagging the community in your tweets via a hashtag or replying @srpforum so that members can search for your tweets.

About the TweetBoard

The TweetBoard is our tweet stream tracker that will make it convenient to post a tweet right from SRP! It's great for a lot of twitter sociability, but you'll notice quick that it isn't very useful as a chat room. Besides, we already have one of those.

* Avoid the temptation to use it like a chat room.
* Think before you tweet: will it add value to the stream?

Hashtags:

Here is a list of common acronyms and hashtags that we have seen across the twitter shaving scene as well as a few ideas for new ones. Their frequency will be noted and as they are used (or new ones take their place) perhaps they will be edited here or placed in a Wiki.

We're not encouraging any particular ones; just like how the acronyms that we've grown to love here on the forum have been adopted by the community at large, we'll be mostly leaving hashtag adoption to the free-market economy that is your keyboard and fingers.

It all sounds very interesting, but to be perfectly honest, having elements follow me up and down the page when I scroll is almost unbearable.

I'm with NorthPaw on that. Not a fan of the sidethingie at all. Cool that you guys are trying new stuff, though.

Good thinking, but I'd rather the notification be an option one could turn on or off. With off as the default of course

Gonna have to agree with the above posts about the side tab. I clicked on it to check it out, and it ended up freezing me out of the forum. Nothing that closing the browser and opening a new one wouldn't fix, but it was a pain. I prefer the unobtrusive suggestions noted above.

I'm not a Twitter person, though, so take my comments based upon that knowledge. I rarely have anything to say that's woth posting to an entire community, and keeping track of the voices in my head requires most of my brainpower anyway. I don't need another stream of information to keep up with. :)

I never had any interest in twitter before today. Wonder if I can snap pics on camera phone of razors on my next excursion and twit them in?

How do I get rid of that awful Tweets bar on the left. I'm using Safari on a mac iBook and it's annoying me. The tweet bar that is, not the mac...

I'm having the same problem with Safari on my iMac and can't seem to find a way to make the Tweets bubble disappear. Any suggestions would most certainly be appreciated because that thing is getting annoying. The red post counter is the worst as it grabs my attention in the corner of my eye and distracts me from reading all the great content of a forum post.

That Twitter plug-in was causing me to get a bunch of lag in Firefox....had to forbid it. :shrug:

I don't do twitter anyway. :)

Ditto with the others. Personally I like it, but I can certainly see how it would be annoying to someone who doesn't want to use Twitter.

But I like it! Very cool idea.

I think it is great, now I think I will tweet instead of just following others.

I agree with others on the tweets bar on the side. I was on my hone this afternoon and it seemed to be stuck the same spot and would cover up the forums button.

I think it would be great to have it as northpaw suggested, just my thoughts.

So that twitter bar following me around is not a virus and I reformated my pc for nothing, that's great.

I Adblocked the 'Twitter' image so now I'm being stalked by an empty square. Not much better so I turned off java script and the square is gone :)

When I initially saw the tweet bar I found this thread explaining (I think) how to let the bar be set per-user:

If that's an option for us. Thanks for all the hard work you do!

Now every time I try to access a page on SRP, a little log in box pops down asking for my twitter info... That wouldn't be a problem, but it doesn't recognize my correct information. Even when I logged into twitter and came back, it didn't let me browse the site without that log in box appearing... :boohoo:
