it never hurts to ask:
Would it be possible to put it in the BB software to convert "str8" to "straight" when someone submits a post?
That is a feature I would pay to have installed.

When I first started out on BBS's back in 91 I must admit to using shortcuts like that all the time. My excuse is the modems where really slow back then:)
And being unfamiliar with both the new media and with typing, it made these kind of shortcuts really easy to turn to.
As the years has gone by, I have grown more sufficient with both..
.
It is nice to read proper language online as well as in the papers and in books.
So I guess I would chip in as well, albeit not very much:)
By the end of the day, the meaning of the poster is what really matters.
Brilliant idea! I have given it some serious consideration. Here is the result.
- Replace Puma with Pi, in the tradition of ghetto slang for quality products. Or maybe Pumi, for consistency's sake? Not sure yet, but thankful for suggestions.
- Replace all instances of Coti, Thurri, Nani, Coti, Filli with "Yo Mama!"
- Ensure complete consistency across all shaving related products by ghettoising them, too.
- Dovi
- Böki
- Zwilli
- Also managed to identify some problem cases. Still looking for sensible solutions:
- Wadi or Butchi?
- Thiersi, or Ti?
- Eki or Tuni?
- Lacking proper sociolectal background, but shouldn't that be Thuri and Fili? Or are violations of grammar required to ensure authenticity (or "honester credibility" as I prefer to call it for lack of a better epithet).
Thanks for your input, gentlemen,
BeBi
I think this is a really gr8 idea!
Your objection doesn't seem to be to acronyms and abbreviations in general, which I would tend to agree with. However I am puzzled as to why of all the acronyms and abbreviations that are commonly used here str8 the one that draws your ire. Of all the acronyms and abbreviations listed in the wiki surely str8 is among the easiest to decipher and the least likely to cause confusion.
I'll put cousin Festus to work right away to implement these recommendations. He has a way with words.
I would love to see any alpha-numeric 'spellings' of words legitimized as standard diagnostics of a case for chemical sterilization, but alas, Congress just won't go with it.
BeBerlin: l337, dude, ur idea rox!
Not sure there's much we can do about it. Strange that, as communication becomes more written (for the moment anyway), it becomes less literate at the same time. 'The future is certain, give us time to work it out', or something. I currently have a cat at my feet hassling to go out, he understands that last sentence:confused:. Strange times. Just getting old, I guess. Rage against the dying and all that.
My votes:
Pumi, Thuri, Fili, Butchi, Issi(?), and Tuni. Conversely I'd go with the double letters for "Yo Mamma!"
On a bizarre tangent, your signature reminded me of Bébé's Kids which was created by a comedian named Robin. :)
I think Filly would be more fitting, though: Filly Fairy.
Isn't Filly Fairy the antropomorphic personification goes around waving a chorizo sausage disguised as a magic wand? It goes pling and a new batch of Fillies pop up in ebay and the price shoots through the roof. In its spare time it hyphotises people with shiny objects and collects milkbottles (even antropomi.. Atmop.. Amtrop..... those things need hobbies). :D
