"New posts" function
This may not be an issue for most, but when I visit SRP, I usually start by clicking "New posts" to see what's current. But once I've clicked on a thread, it disappears from the "New posts" array until somebody adds a new comment. This is different from most fora I visit, where "new" means something more on the order of "this thread has been active recently," and such threads stay in place after I've viewed them -- for me, that works better, since I sometimes read a thread, think about it a bit, and decide I'd like to put in a word.
Is the way it works here at SRP a deliberate decision, or just an artifact of the software? And could it, or should it, be changed?

I am so used to it I never thought about it being changed. I think it is less clutter on the page if you're surfing looking for something you haven't read yet. OTOH, maybe some would like it the other way.

It would be really cool if the user could set that feature to their own preference. That, though, I doubt would be practicable. But either way, it's not a big deal; I'll adapt and get another cup of coffee, or after hours another :beer2: .

If anything an option that would be user configurable would be good.
I prefer the "new posts" to be the way it is here. There are other forums I use where it works as you describe and displays threads that have been posted to within the last hour or so. For me I like a list of what I haven't seen yet.

every forum i have been on has actually been this way. Once you have read something, it is no longer new.
If you want to bookmark a thread, subscribe to it.

Good to see everyone's perspectives. I can see how one could prefer this arrangement.
Useful links, Hoglahoo, thanks. I'll try using those.
