Phishing expedition - URGENT

To the mod - please move this where it will be noticed!

I recently had a message purporting to be from an SRP member and also a customer of mine. The gist is that he and his wife have been stuck in Scotland due to being robbed at gunpoint and is asking for money to get home to JFK (he doesn't live there!). He's asking for money to be sent via Western Union to get him out of trouble (£1500).

I asked him a couple of questions re SRP and one or two things only he and I would know- guess what? Stalling, doesn;t know the answer.

It's pretty obvious this is a scam so if ANY member receives a like email BEWARE. I won't give the member's name this fraudster is using as this would compromise the member's security but I'm convinced this is bogus.

Just remember - Scotland - robbed-needs money (asked for £1500).

I have pm'd the member concerned and am awaiting his reply.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

Thanks for the "heads-up". It's always great to be warned about these scams that seem to be running rampant on the web. Please let us know how the other person responds. Hopefully this is a scam, and not a SRP member truly in troubling circumstances.

I'll agree that this is a common scam these days. It's usually perpetrated on the Senior Citizen crowd by someone claiming to be a relative stuck in a foreign country. My mother got hit with this last year. She;s still trying to figure out how some criminals got her personal information as she has never used the internet and rarely, if ever anymore, uses a credit card. I tried to explain that public records are now accessible online and that this could be the source that started it all but she is still in awe that someone could learn so much about another private citizen without them being on the web.

Glad to hear he's no longer stranded in Scotland. I was feeling more generous than usual as I was ready to send tons - not the few pounds our out of luck brother said he needed.

As someone who's been stuck in one of the coldest places in the nation under about 4 feet of snow, Palm Beach County sounds like a good place to be stuck, Jimmy!

Thanks for the warning on the scam. When I read the "stuck in Scotland" routine, my nose started itching.

Listen, I'm still working on my cousin in Dubai, who wished to send me $7 million and wanted the routing number to my bank account for the direct deposit.

I don't have a cousin in Dubai; I'm an Assyrian.

So I sent him the routing number to my bank account — comprised of the 11 numbers from the jerseys on my daughter's soccer team.

I'm still waiting for the $7 million transfer to my bank account.
