Question prompted by an often (attempted) breach of policy

I have noticed during my time here that it is relatively frequent that new users ask for valuations of their razors or other gear for any number of reasons. Obviously due to policy I have never given any input but does such a service exist to which forum members can forward the askers? (not asking for specifics, just more or less whether it is something that exists)

Even if it would be against policy to inform askers of this service, I have just never come across a straight razor appraiser in my time searching the net which is why I found this topic interesting.

Basically ebay and past sales in classifieds are the best way to appraise value. Razor prices are a moving target. One day a razor will sell for $30, someone will post how good a shaver it is and all of a sudden they are selling for $200.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought. One of the things that caused me to ask was that I stumbled upon the show Pawn Stars, never really was a fan of 'reality shows' but it was educational when they call in the appraisers and it just got me thinking. Razors are a whole different beast because they are actually used and not just a collectors item

Hehe actually Razors are both...

This makes valuations even more difficult, as there are two separate groups of "Razormen" (that would make a good title for a reality show)
There is a group that only considers the scales for the value.. Then there is our group that the value is more tied to the steel...
The biggest reasons we stopped the valuation BS is 1. it is useless as the values are subjective.. and 2. it caused to much tension between the members...

Thanks for the responses. I completely agree with the policy and what you've said - the values are very subjective, I know sometimes I look at these blades on ebay and think "'c'mon... really?"

Just the wording of some people, "we don't do valuations here" made me think there might be a service out there doing this somehow. There would almost need to be 2 or 3 valuations per razor.
