works ok for me? The whole server hiccuped a few minutes ago... I couldn't access it at all for a few minutes. Could that have been the problem?
edit: stupid me... I didn't check the time and realize that you posted your message hours ago. But AFAIK things are running ok... I was working on a few things a couple hours ago... maybe I impacted you somehow. sorry.
Joe, I'm still having the issue with no changes in my settings and only with Opera. IE6 works just fine. I tried clearing the browser cache and accessing the forums but no luck.
Ok. Unfortunately, neither David or I have a copy of Opera on our PC's at the moment...when we get some free time one of us will load it and see what we can do. Are you running the latest version of Opera? We also need to check the support forums for the main site's CMS software, Opera, etc.
Meanwhile, you can view the forum by bypassing the main site... ie, http://straightrazorpalace.com/
According to the update-checker, I am running the latest version. That's what I've been using all along. I try to avoid using IE as much as possible lol.
I'm having the same problem with my new Imac. Forum starts to load after login and then hangs.

Firestart:
I installed the latest version of Opera (9.02) and it indeed fails to render the page correctly. The Opera and Joomla support forums weren't much help, although there were several posts indicating that the latest version of Opera did introduce some javascript conflicts, but there was nothing definitive. It would be interesting to hear from someone running Opera 8 to see if they have the same problem? Anyone ? [edit: I uninstalled 9.02 and downloaded/installed Opera 8.5.3 ... it failed to render the page as well... so what's interesting is this has been a problem for some time with opera users viewing Joomla pages. It's odd there isn't more in their (Opera's and Joomla's) support forums?]
I played with Opera long enough to convince myself that the problem is related to the template (ie, the "skin") were using for the site... sites that use different templates seemed to work fine when asked to render pages invoking features similar to the ones we use. As we continue with our evolution of the site our plan is to change the template. Currently our SRP test site is torn apart (to test something else), so I can't specifically test out the new template to make sure Opera can render our site with it. But Opera does render the new template's demo site correctly, so that's encouraging.
Meanwhile... the best solution I can offer is to either 1)use Firefox or 2)load the forum directly via the ".../forums" url I gave in an earlier post.

If "I'm having the same problem..." means Opera is failing for you also, then the above applies to you as well. If you meant something different, then please post specific details, including browser/version, platform/OS, etc.
I did report the issue to the Opera technical staff. So far, all of the issues I've reported got corrected. Let us know when the template changes so we can test it again. I MAY have an older version on another computer so I will give that a shot as well.
I had a major crash via Windows XP, and am trying a new Mac. I'm running the latest version of Safari, and am unable to show the forums. That's as technically detailed as I'm capable of being.

if you go to www.straightrazorplace.com/forums, do they display?
Yes, somehow this is bypassing the problem. Wonder why?
Joel
because the latter is loading just the forum in a window (or tab), while the former is loading the forum inside a frame on the main site page. The Safari browser is having a problem rendering that. My best recommendation is to avoid the problem and use a different browser.
Seems to be working properly now.

Still having issues with Opera
I wrote too soon. The loading probem still exists. I can use the workaround on the Mac or simply use this ancient laptop.
Joel
Use the workaround... that's the way most of us view the forums anyway (even though we're running browsers that don't have the problem... we just prefer to view it in the larger format). Try it... you'll probably like it. The problem will be fixed when Safari fixes it. It's not something we have any significant control over.
Ilija, it's not something that we are likely going to be able to fix... either Opera or Joomla will make a change sometime in the future and the problem will go away. Until then my best advice is to either switch browsers or view the forum directly. Sorry I can't be more accommodating... I am a survivor of the browser wars of the early/mid 90's. During that period I learned you either had to "go with the flow" or get real frustrated. I chose the former... hence at various times I've been a loyal user of Compuserve, AOL, Netscape, Opera, IE, Mozilla, and Firefox. My browser this week is Firefox running with the ability to render with the IE engine when needed... right now that gives me the best of both worlds. Next week, who knows.
In any case thanks for your patience with my whining Joe. I already reported the issue to slave labor in charge of writing code and until they do, I'll just use the workaround. This browser's like home to me.

Yup. I'm using the workaround without hitches. Thanks for the help, guys.
