New soap and creme

Just got my shipment from SRD yesterday and tried the SRD Frankincense E.O. soap and absolutly love it really increases the glide and love the smell. Next up is the Castle and Forbes Lavender, just hope I don't get SAD. Just tried the face lathering and works good and hope the C&F works as well. I was thinking about the MWF but recently heard that it causes problems with gents with oily skin, so it won't work for me. I was using Creamo and Colonel Conk combined and after using the SRD soap they may have to be used for traveling or emergencies only. Funny I felt I shaved because I had to, now I look forward to my next shave which can be every other day as the str8 gets really close with two passes, now the only problem is getting the wife to leave me alone so I can enjoy it, seems she wants to have a shower in the middle of my shave and in an RV that is really tight quarters.;) Only downside is I wish I had gone to str8s years ago.:gaah:

Both products will serve you well. I think the CF will knock your socks off, so be prepared lol

As for MWF, I'm not sure that I've heard that particular complaint before. My skin leans towards the oily side and I've never had any issues with it, quite the opposite since it's one of my favourite soaps :). It is lanolin based though, so those with a lanolin sensitivity should stay away.

The SRD soaps are great, really can't go wrong with them, haven't tried castle forbes yet but have never heard ANYTHING bad about it. On a side note, living in an RV seems like it would be such an awesome way to live (wish i could convince my wife to do it)

Sinnfein, I see your addy if Ft. Campbell, KY, funny my wife and I met there. As for fulltime RVing, keep working on her we like it a lot, just wish the wife didn't choose to have a shower the same time I'm getting my shave on, lol

I'm new to the whole straight razor shaving but have already discovered soaps to like and not like. Started with a selection of locally made goats milk soaps. Adequate shave but not soothing. Bought the drug store cheap Williams and dropped it after the first use. I find that I have sensitive skin (happens sometimes when you age) and looked around and found in my local Bi-Mart Van Der Hagen glycerin shaving soap (under $2.00) and rejoiced at the soothing shave from that. Just got a cake of Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap and am eager to try it also. Also I use a pre shave oil. Tried some samplers by mail and didn't find much effect. Have switched to mineral oil and will defend it against all the esoteric and pricey users. To each his own and say "Success to you" when someone finds what works for them. Retired budgets make for interesting solutions to many problems.

Yup I tried the C&F and thought I don't have enough on the brush....well as it turns out I had too much, so even at the price it will last quite a while just got to tone down the amt. It was an awsome shave though. I keep thinking why did this style of shaving go away? It's such a pleasant experience, If I think about it too much I get upset that all those years I hated shaving, now I look forward to it, my how things change, I guess this falls into the stop and smell the roses category.

Alright, this thread got me hooked back into my soap & cream addiction. Just back from Walmart looking for other things, sidetracked myself and got the following. Got home without what I started out to get!
1. Neutrogena sensitive skin Shave Cream
2. Cremo Shave Cream (They call it "The Astonishingly Superior Shave Cream". We'll see since it was on a rollback from about $5.50 to $3.97.)
3. Shave Secret (A little bottle of something liquid that they claim a few drops rubbed on your whiskers will give you the shave of a lifetime. And I am very curious about this one.)
4. A small bottle pure glycerin to add to lather (following up on a suggestion read in one of the posts.)
5. A small bottle of Liquid Bandage (Ya never know!)
And all of them under $4 each. Remember I'm the cheap gut who overspends just to prove myself stupidly wrong. But you never know what might work out.

I used to use the Neutrogena with my Mach 3 it was pretty good. I got the Creamo next and it was fabulous with the Mach 3 and ok with the Straight razor, maybe a little glycerin help it along. I've heard great things about MWF, let us know how you like it , I saw a video on you tube on how to lather it ( I believe he face lathered ) thats where I want to get to is face lathering, in an RV don't have room for a lot of extra stuff. Sometimes all we can do is enjoy the ride.

Been using MWF in rotation for a bit now and I have oily skin but never a problem with MWF. Never a problem to get a good lather from MWF using my usual cold water face lathered shaving. At the finish of the shave I use an alum block and rinse it off with cold water after a few minutes. Lastly, the best brush so far to use with MWF or any other cream or soap I have is a Muhle synthetic silvertip fiber travel brush. I like the Muhle synthetic so much I just ordered a 25mm regular one for use at home.

I've got both. If I could get the MWF to consistently lather well without drying out, I'd use it exclusively. It moisturizes really well and smells like clean sheets. CF may be a little expensive, but it's definitely worth it; I use it almost every day now. In fact, I just ordered another tub. The lime smells like lime zest and the cedar/sandlewood smells like a cedar plank (for your info).
