Quick question, has anyone here purchased the Mama Bear Essential Oil shaving soap samples and if so what was their opinion. I have sensitive skin so I would prefer something that was as natural as possible. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks
I got a puck of Mama Bear's patchouli and love it. I know nothing of how it is for sensitive skin but MB has a great reputation and I would believe any claims made on the web site. I can tell you it is easy for me to make a great lather with it and the scent is not over powering. If I don't use an aftershave I can smell it for several hours afterwards but it's not so strong that it argues with the aftershave when I do use it. As the story goes " it's just right".
I am using some all natural artisan soaps right now but they are taking me some trials to get the lather just right. I am getting better results as I use them more. Other will chime in about what chemicals to avoid in soaps that do have problems.
I haven't, but I've heard of the brand and curious to see if others have tried it.
Unfortunately, sensitivity to essential oils is a very personal and highly variable thing. For instance, I do not have sensitive skin and have never had any problem with irritation with any of the artisan soaps except for Petal Pusher Fancies Steam River Rum. I can use any other bay rum soap without issue but that one lights me up. Go figure. Your best bet in my opinion is to try the samples, perhaps stick to fragrance oils instead of essential oils if possible, and take your chances.

I used Mamma Bear Ye Ole Barbershop soap today. My skin gets irritated by anything that is too perfumed. Consequently Truefitt and Taylors are mostly off limits for me. But I've never had any problems with Mamma Bear. But depending on what aggravates your skin, you might be in a different situation. Mamma Bear sells 1.5 oz pucks that are great for melting into a latte mug. Just unwrap the soap and place it in the mug. Give it ten seconds or so in the microwave and let it cool/set up. When I make my lather, I make it right on top of the soap in the mug. Its not bad stuff. I buy the small pucks because it gives me the option to change it up frequently and sample a few different ones without risking too much cash in the event I don't like it.
I have eight Mama Bear soaps in my rotation and love the rich lather and great scents they give. Try the samples and if they prove easy on the skin don't hold back, you will not be disappointed. I use the double boiler method of melting the soaps in my jars instead of the microwave. Too much heat isn't good for the scent and isn't that one of the reasons for having so many soaps. I hope they are kind to your face.
I also use Mama Bears soaps and have found they are great. The scent is really nice without being over-powering. She has a lot of great scents to choose from also; my personal favorites is the Vanilla Sandalwood and Toased Coconut. I haven't had any issues with them and can get a great lather.
I've been able to get about 3 shaves off each sample so if oyu wanted can try a few and see how it works for you.
I have yet to meet a mama bear soap that I would consider a keeper. This is my experience and all others experiences with
this product may have a different result.
I adore Mama Bear's Soaps! I have been using them almost exclusively for the past 5 months. I get a GREAT lather and glide and mixed with a touch of cream and glycerin the uber just EXPLODES out of the bowl!! I can't recommend them enough!
If I could make a recommendation, I'm a big fan of RazoRock soaps and creams.
i use nothing else than Mama Bear (i have about 20 different smell from her). great soap thats lather up great.. even better smell of the soap and a exellent service From Sue (Mama bear)

I used my first Mama Bear soap today, the Ye Olde Babershoppe. Great lather, great scent, great shave. It lathers easily.
For me, Stirling still has the edge for pucks.

There are very few of you who knew of my mothers health conditions besides her recent breast cancer, that turned to spinal and brain cancer last month. In 1998 she became very sick and it was hard for her to walk. Over the next few years she lost almost all of her vision. She was legally blind. She could no longer drive a car by 2002. By 2004 she was in a scooter or wheelchair for mobility. This never stopped her. For my wedding in 2005 instead of the traditional walk down the aisle she had both of my brothers walk her down then had another escort behind her, her service dog that helped her walk. One of my wedding gifts was a full length fur lined satin coat to go over my dress, she made this by feel. Along with the mink shawls she made for all of the girls that stood up for me. She could do things many of us without any disabilty could do.
My Mom started making soap and lotions in late 2002 for fun. Shortly after she tried selling on Ebay. Then Shave my Face became a part of her life then B&B took over. : ) My brothers and I would get upset from time to time, all she ever wanted to talk about was some new recipe she made, wanted to make, or something she wanted to try because some new customer/friend suggested it. I wanted to be just a daughter some days but to be a daughter to her you had to live SOAP. Being a part of B&B and all of your continued support has kept her strong and alive since 2006 when my Dad died. My Dad used to tease her how he was her mail guy. She would line up all of her orders on the counter and he would put them in the car everyday and drive them to the post office. When he died she knew she had to do this another way. She had a rural mailbox put in, got a huge tub to add extra orders to and built the shop in the basement. Shortly after we added a chair lift to get her up and down because her ligs totally quit. I think I say this for all of my family THANK YOU. Because of you she got up everyday and never felt sorry for herself. She pushed herself to exhaustion everyday. What she could do in 10-12 hours a day most of us could do in about an hour. Because of this I became part of B&B and I cannot say enough about all of the support you have brought to all of us. Thank you again for being part of our family. I just hope I can be as great as her someday."
