For those of you that do cold water shaves, is there a particular soap or cream that lathers well cold?
The only issue is getting the soap soft. Dribble some hot water on the soap before you jump in the shower. It will be soft when you get out, so you can build soap on the brush then follow your lather techniques with cold water. Cream should lather the same unless it's a firmer cream, like a Razorock. The the initial hot water drip would work the same way.

I have not found any that won't work with cold water, but I have been doing it so long that I don't know if I've just adapted.
One thing is that I grate any hard soap (Think MWF) and pack it in layers in the container. (The first two times you lather you will pick up small bits, this stops soon)
Method is to add about a tablespoon+ of water (cool, cold) on top while showering. I save this water in a mug. Squeeze out the water from the soaked boar brush and load up.
I use that soaking water to build up as I face lather. You can also use it to build up in a scuttle if you prefer.
And I do use a hot water towel at the finish to rinse and clear the lather out of my mustache - followed by an ice water washcloth finish...
The SWMBO calls it my Spa treatment, now that she realizes that I am not water-boarding myself...
Cold is good, come on over...

I use cold water, and I have not had any problems. Like the above post if the soap is hard put a little bit of water on it to soften it.
Most of my soaps seem to work fine in cold water. The easiest to lather is Wickham super smooth but I use Stirling, Palmolive, Cella, Arko etc etc without any issues.
Never had a cream/croap/soap fail to ignite face lathering using cold water.

I have always preferred a shave stick when i shave with cold water throughout the summer months.
A pre and post splash of bay rum is always my staple when shaving with cold water.
Ditto to each an every of the preceding posts. MY shaves smoothed out once i switched to cold water.
Go to run a little experiment this morning. Put an aluminum mug in the freezer last night (90F+ predicted for today). Will pull it when ready to lather up.
Experiment done. Results: Other than a momentary colder feeling of the lather on my face (warms up almost immediately) no, or none, significant difference.

I think I'll have to give this a go with a freezer mug... You know, the ones that have the water (or something) in between the inner and outer walls of the mug so that it freezes and keeps your beverage cold.Quote:

I can only get my Speick cream to lather well in cold water for some reason. It just doesn't seem to break up in the heat at all, or not easily.
