Jermyn Street Vs Proraso Green
After many months looking at the Taylor products I splurged and bought a tube of Jermyn Street saving cream. With it came a free sample of Proraso Green shaving soap.
The first impression of the Green was not so favourable. The menthol felt like it was cooling the whiskers right off my chin. I was wondering if it was menthol or liquid nitrogen in it. But with a few uses I got used to it, and enjoy the fresh feel and smell. The Jermyn Street has an excellent soft fragrance and lathers up well.
Now the strange thing is I find myself more and more reaching for the Proraso. I find that the Jermyn Street goes dry and flakey too quickly (I spent maybe 3 - 4 minutes shaving, perhaps I'm just too slow) I've tried more cream, or more water but it more or less starts flaking off near the end of shaving. The Proraso on the other hand maintains an excellent rich deep lather all the while, I think I could have a coffee after lathering my face and still enjoy a good shave later.
Has anyone else had any similar experience? Are the other scents in the TOBS line different in this regard?
I have used the Proraso Red cream in the tube and was happy with that also. I love the TOBS scents, I think the next one I will try will be St James, but the real winner here for value for money (well it was free to me!) and consistent performance is the Proraso I think. I prefer the scent of the Jermyn Street, but the lather of the Green.
I never thought I would be writing like this, they are both great shaves, this morning I really enjoyed the Jermyn Street, but tomorrow morning, I suspect I'll be reaching for the green again, after all, it was free :-)
