I've been using a puck of Mama Bear's Classic Spice this week. It's pretty slick and has a subtle scent with good cushion, lovely stuff.
I tend to go through phases of soaps and have many "favorites".
The one that I always come back to is Tabac. A great performing product. Sets the standard (IMO) in many ways of how a shaving soap should perform.
Some have issues with the scent and say it smells old man-ish. I personally don't go around sniffing older gents, so I don't have a problem with Tabac's scent. If anything, I would say that this soap overall is . . . mature both in scent and performance.
Barrister & Mann - Cheshire
Great lather, cushion and slickness, perfect aroma level and an enjoyable scent.
Currently, I'm my last little bit of original P160, which I love. After that, it would be Razorock mudder focker.
Maggards has some P160; I just ordered a tub!
I really enjoy the scent of The Blades Grimm "Smoulder". I just haven't figured out if the poor lathering is me... or the soap.. lol
Have not tried many different soaps yet, but currently enjoying Beer Soap Brewing Company Bay Rum. Good smell and produces good lather. Wanting to try more soaps/scents but wife is getting suspicious of my new found desire for shaving/skin products. Hoping to get RazoRocks The Beach for Christmas.
i have a block of p.160 :D (first production)
after manay years it work well...but smell is nothing(only smell of soap) . I'm thinking to add some essence oil to profumated it.
So...after few months....my favourite is ,again, Windsor of Harris.....i'm mad for it :D
My current favorite is Barrister & Mann, any scent. This American artisan soap gives top notch performance, pleasant scents, larger diameter jar for easy loading at a reasonable price. IMO Barrister & Mann performs as well as Martin de Candre at half the price with more scent varieties.
I just tried out some C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream that was given to me. I was pleasantly surprised and it is defiantly finding a spot in the rotation.
Revisited this morning, a soap that I used years ago, Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge shaving soap. Very very VERY nice. Used with a Somerset era Simpson Duke 3 in Best and really took my time both loading the brush and working up an amazing lather on my face. Great scent and lather. Very nice post shave feel. Bought the refill puck (it is pricey).
MDC Fougere...again...a superb experience and always delivers.
I was able to take a break this weekend, really take my time to enjoy a good shave and I used my C&E Nomad. I really like the scent but it is a bit weak, with NO hang time. Anyone know of an aftershave that carries this a bit further? I'm new to scents and after shaves, (hell, I'm new to all of this). This soap has been a bit of a challenge for me to get a good lather that doesn't dry out before the end of the shave. I prefer to lather my whole face at once and have found that I prefer a rather wet lather w/this soap. It gives more glide which seems to be more important to my face than cushion. Anyone else have any experience using C&E soaps? So many choices and so few shaves......... I just want to kick back and make lather all day! Happy shaves, G
Strop Shop Peppermint and Dapper Dragon Jasmine Vanilla seem to be very nice right now! Just started to use them a few days ago. Very nice scents, good lather and cushion.
Cold River Soap Works has been treating me well lately...
At the moment, Tiki Bar Soap's Spice Islands, HTGAM's Vanetiver (it's vanilla and vetiver), or Col. Conk's Amber. The first two are all around outstanding soaps, the third is just a "pretty good" soap but I've always been addicted to the scent.
i dont have a ton of soaps but right now its a toss up between SRD " POPUS X " and MIKES "BARBERSHOP"
Christmas season is upon us. Barrister and Mann Dickens is Christmas in a screw top tub.
Simply great.
Tried my Cinnaconilla from Maggards this morning. Put a little on the inside of my forearm, no issues. Lathered up (very nice lather by the way!) put on my face and started to shave. Smelled like a Fireball jawbreaker candy and then my face started turning red and burning! Yikes. Had to wash it off and redo my lather with a different shaving soap. Cinnaconilla smelled nice and lathered great, but just not a good fit for my skin!
I tried great variety of soaps but three of them are absolute perfection. Here is the rank:
1. MWF
2. L'Occitanne Cade
3. Tabac
