I use The Body Shop Maca Root shave cream. Used to use their Hemp one but they stopped making it and changed to the Maca Root. I've tried a couple of others, but I'm happy with the Maca Root and gonna stick to it (as long as they keep making it).
Do you stick to one? Use various ones? Are you always trying new ones?
I try new ones if they really sound good from others reviews , and if Obie recommends them I usually try it since all of his have been winners, but I stick to just a couple as a regular basis , MDC being the one I use the most. Tc
I try to expose myself to as many as I can.
I have my favorites. MdC for sure. I like trufitt and hill creams. Castle Forbes. ToB Eton. I am happy with them. I could use any one everyday and be very content.
But no, I am always trying new stuff. Maggards has samples and their line of soaps have been good so far

I got some omega recently and it is becoming a firm favorite, i have quite a collection to run down too, but i have really just used the omega since I got it.
I think the guys that have their soaps brushes and razors figured out and they have a small selection that they are happy with, don't spend a lot of time on the forums. I am in the camp of those always trying new things. I often switch up my straights, soaps and brushes. I also have the Macca Root. Nice soap, but I don't think I'm a one soap kind of guy. I think those that are are the ones that save money with shaving.
I have a stable of favorites. On rare occasion I'll try something new.
I'm always interested in trying something new, I have enough soaps now that what I've got pretty much covers the basis in terms of ingredients and scents, and I've narrowed down to really liking the MDC Fougere and Original scented, the Tabac, Acqua Di Parma is awesome, MWF, DR Harris, T&H completely awesome, and Barrister and Mann are right up there....those with mixing it up with various straights, DE's and brushes are proving very enjoyable, I can pretty much come up with something new and different each time.
Right now I'm happy rotating through a few Mama Bear glycerin soaps and a pair of tallows (Arko and a Stirling sampler).
Of course, time was I just used C & O Bigelow every day! Who knows what "small stable" of soaps I'll be drawing on in a few years?
These days my wild experimentation is all but over. Mitchell's Wool Fat and Tabac have earned the starter job and one of the two provides the 95% solution for most of my shaves. Occassionally I'll deviate and use other soaps/creams but it's becoming less and less common that I shave with anything but MWF and Tabac.
Maca Root, MWF, Shave and various other tubes/creams make up my mostly daily uberlather. Occasional single use of Williams (yes I can get a good lather from it), Cella and Fieldwork's Razor's Edge and face lather with those. There are a bunch that are not in their original containers and I can't remember their names (age, damnit). But I keep coming back to the original part of this statement - MR,MWF and S.
I normally have a soap/cream rotation, I add new ones from time to time. As there's an Occitane shop close to work, I may actually go and buy a puck of Cade this week.

At this point it is a milestone to use all of anything...I am fortunate that I have a Brother and a friend who are very willing recipients of anything that it remotely "meh".
What's left in the basket(s) below the counter is all good - only shave once a day now that I use a Straight....so this will take some time, even more so if I keep reading these posts.

I can see Stirling's Margaritas in the Arctic being a regular. I also must admit that Van Der Hagen Luxury has given me a great face yogurt and shave within 20 seconds of lathering.
I binge lather for days on end with a cream or soap and then on to the next for the same treatment. Current multi-day binge is with a simple tube of Omega Crema da Barba. I love the Italian products such as the Omega, Proraso, and Santa Maria Novella. Way up high on the list is also Martin de Candre, Tabac, and La Toja.

One year ago i was down to 4 soaps. I thought this a major accomplishment. Now I have about 20 pucks and creams. Several are samples but I still count them as you typically get quite a few shaves from a puck sample.
Hit the manufacturer's web sites and try their sample packs. Probably the most economical way to try different products.

Lathering with a silvertip brush and a quality soap or cream is pure joy for me. Sometimes I feel it is the best part of the daily shave. For that reason, I have bought and sold scores of brushes. The same is true of creams and soaps, except that I often pass the brands I don't want to family and friends.
After many years, I have settled on the steady lineup of Martin de Candre soap; Castle Forbes cream; Santa Maria Novella cream; Truefitt & Hill's Ultimate Comfort cream (I found this about 10 or 12 years ago and have rarely missed using it); Xpec cream (no longer made, although I have a wee bit left); Klar Kabinett (great German barber soap); The Art of Shaving soap (old formula); Taylor of Old Bond Street "natural" (good for sensitive skin); and Czech & Speake (good in every way).
Gone are the Harris range; some of the French and Spanish soaps and creams; Mitchell's Wool Fat; Tabac and scores of others. More in the shave den will go sooner or later. Artisan soaps, for the most part, do little for me, and I find many of them alike in many ways. In the meantime, I continue to try new things, not that I am unsatisfied with what I have, no, it is because I am curious about shave soaps and creams.
There are so many fine ones out there for me to try. Yes, it's expensive, but quality does cost money. And after all, I cannot resist that luscious experience of lathering every morning.
It's weird, because for me the "software" is the least interesting part of shaving, but I seem to have an inordinate amount of it hanging around. I just don't know where it all comes from. I'm like some weird shaving cream obsessed doomsday prepper...
I have a lot of soaps/croaps, something like 40+ tubs, kilo of cella, and a bunch of samples. I kind of went crazy my in my 1st year. Haven't bought any since. Even started shaving my head 2 years ago in an attempt to use it up. In the 3 yrs I've been SR. shaving, I don't think I've ever manage to empty a complete tub. I can see the bottom on a few, but there is still plenty along the sides. Some of the tallows are getting kind of strong. I guess they are starting to go bad.
I have to agree with Obie, the lathering is probably the most enjoyable aspect to wet shaving.
I have only been in the game for a little while now and as Obie has stated I enjoy the lathering process as well, possibly my favorite part. Currently I have around 15 different creams and soaps and I thought that I had found a possible work horse/go-to cream with Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar this week, but after going back to my first soap, Col. Conk, it reinforced to me that I really like using different creams/soaps. So long story short, I don't see me anytime soon stopping buy cream/soap buying habit.
The latest always seems the greatest to me, currently it is proraso red.

I will occasionally binge lather either to use up a puck/tub or I am just very happy with the shaves I am getting. I see no evil in this.

So I ahev been SR shaving for a month now. After reading this thread, I realized four soaps and 2 creams are not enough for a sophisticated SR Gent. To remedy the situation I just ordered Col. Conk's Glycerin variety 4 pack.
