Fieldworks shave products -- any experience?

Hello all,

I've been looking to get a hold of some shaving supplies and have several cremes, soaps, pre and post shave items on my list based on what I've read here. I have found several through vendors on this site as well as Amazon, but I was hoping to get something local to start with. I've been haunting my local stores and pharmacies for some decent shaving supplies and none seem to have a decent selection.

I was at the Natural Grocers today picking up some food and thought to look over in their essential oils, soaps, lotions, etc section to see if *maybe they might have something that looks worth trying. Lo and behold, they had a men's grooming section, albeit very small, that had 3 or 4 brands of shaving lines. They also had a couple leather strops and brushes (both cheap, Bass I think) to learn with. This small section had more in it than any of the other stores combined.

Anyway, I picked up some Fieldworks brand soap, creme, and after shave. The ingredients list looks pretty decent. Was wondering if anyone else has tried these products.

Will do. I don't have a straight yet but I figure I can go ahead and work on my lather and so forth. Plus i have very little experience with these type of products. I'll do my best and update.

Well, just had these all typed out and lost it. Grrr.

Long story short: 2 shaves with 2 different straights (one being a smilie). These were my first shaves with straight razors, brush, real soap or real cream. I don't really have much valuable info for you because any shortcomings in lather production are more likely attributable to me rather than the soap or the cream. Having said that, the cream (they call it gel) lathered easier, but dried quicker than the soap (which I soaked in advance). Either one was easily revived with a dab of water on the brush scrubbed into the face and beard.

First shave (with the soap) I had a little burn, particularly along the edges of the beard, but this is probably technique related. WTG and ATG on the cheeks, WTG and *some ATG on the neck. Overall, no BBS, but happy smooth.

Second shave was with the cream/gel. Lathered much quicker and easier. WTG ATG on the cheeks, WTG ATG XTG on the neck (getting that skin stretch down). Still no BBS, but happier smooth.

The after shave solution included witch hazel and other appropriate natural ingredients and quickly soothed the burn and gave my skin a nice fresh feeling.

All three products have a mild, pleasing odor that is by no means overpowering. Just nice.

Overall, I'm happy with the products and look forward to shaving with them. With improvement in lathering and shaving technique I'm sure they will serve me just fine. Of course this doesn't mean I won't try some of the other tried and true products I've seen in here.

That is a very smart move.

Beside doing lather, get a table knife (ie not sharp) and practice your stropping
