Lather
Hey all,
Been watching youtube vids and reading up here and one thing I found a bit odd was folks adding glycerin to their bowl/scuttle before lathering up. Is there an added benefit to doing so? Have any of you done/do this? Is for additional shall I use the term lift in the lather to make it more slick? Maybe to moisturize the face?
Thought please and if there are do's and dont's?

I'm waiting for the answer to this. I've been shaving for a long time but since I found this site I have learned a bunch. I have went from having to shave to enjoying it.

It makes Uberlather. It's in the library.
Here you go.

Yea I saw it there as well, but more to the point... Why??? What does one gain from doing so?

Richer and creamier. You can take a soap that won't lather and add glycerin to it and force it to lather.
-
Soaps that already have glycerin in them I haven't noticed any difference by adding more.

Tried adding glycerin when I first started to shave with a straight razor a few years go. I don't bother with it anymore as the soaps and creams I have seem to do just fine without it. Try it out, maybe for you it will be of some benefit.

I used to do this frequently, when I bowl lathered. Since I now face lather 99% of the time, I've stopped.
The glycerin adds another level of slickness to the lather. I took this to yet another level and added some menthol crystals to the glycerin bottle. A few drops to my Bill Bowl not only helped the slickness of the lather, but added a menthol blast to any soap or cream. More drops.. more slick menthol blast.

Like Mike, Bob and Steel, I used to use glycerin in bowl lathering but after switching to face lathering I quit.
Frankly, I never thought glycerin to be all that of a contributor to a good lather.

Totally OT but it concerns glycerin added to aftershaves. Glen posted this http://straightrazorpalace.com/presh...tershaves.html . I tried it in some Aqua Velva Ice Blue and it worked well.
