I've tried a few soaps, I've tried a few creams. Proraso Red seems to be the best for me so far. The soaps lather well but they just don't glide the razor like the cream I find. Anyone have a soap they feel holds up to a cream in that category?

+1 to what Obie is saying. There is a difference between soaps and creams when loading the brush. Creams are easier to judge the amount you need and already are a bit more hydrated than a soap so are easier to work with. With a soap it is easy to not load enough product on the brush and use too much water for a thin non slick lather or the other end not enough water for a sticky too thick non slick lather. Maybe try loading the brush a little more with the soap and slowly adding water a bit at a time till you get the right soap to water ratio. Just practice with the soaps till you find what works because they will work it is just a matter of finding out how to make them work.

BobH and Obie are correct.
Assuming your lathering is not technique related I would recommend the following pucks:
Czech and Speake
Tabac
Martin de Candre and Antica Barbieria Colla. They are not creams. They are outstanding soaps.
Edwin Jagger works great for me, Cella is pretty darn good too, both are fairly reasonably priced.
Cella is an excellent recommendation. Also try Nancy Boy (Protection and Signature), it's not really a soap, but I was really impressed with the protection.
I've seen a lot of cella fans on here. Think it will be added to my list.
I just got a package a few days ago from Mystic Water. So far the soap is terrific, lathers nicely, is nice and slick during the shave and leaves your face feeling great. They do offer samples which are pretty generous. It came very highly recommended and in just a few days I can see why. Might be worth a look - see.

I use the SRD Sweet Patchouli soap and if you work the lather up it's great. there sandalwood is great also.
