Monsavon, shave soap or shave cream ?

I bought two tubs of this recently and I'm very happy with the results.

Is this a hard cream or a soft soap ?....I don't know or care, it's very good though !!
I pressed the contents of one 125gm tub into a wooden bowl with ease.

This is so easy to lather, and a very good lather it is too, long lasting, subtle fragrance and
a smooth, comforting shave.
I lathered up my brush and took the pic ten minutes later.

Enough suds for a three pass shave.
I noticed that my tubs had the word "authentique" embossed on the lids, whereas pics online
have "monsavon" embossed. Don't know if this is relevant or not.

At AUD$7.74 for two tubs I reckon I got a bargain :)

I realize this is a bit of a necro-post but I just was recently in Paris, France and picked up 2 tubs of this stuff at a Monoprix store. I find it amazing that they only ask 1.35 Euros for this soap. I think this soap is one of the best performers in in the cheap soaps and creams category. This Croap performs quite well and is a joy to use. I think Monsavon shave soap leaves most bargain brands in the dust like VDH and Williams and would give most tier 2 soaps a run for their money.

It's okay in my opinion. Easy to find in France, that's for sure. I used to use it there by default before I discovered the Internet, "wet-shaving," and forums like these. Sort of like Barbasol menthol shaving cream in a can, but congealed and put in a tub. Haven't used it since, though, as my shaving life has become more complicated. The Palmolive shaving cream tubes that one finds in the supermarkets there are pretty good as well for around 2-3 euros, but I wouldn't bother buying them here Stateside for twice the price.

I wound up purchasing some Palmolive as well and a jar of Martin De Candre. Couldn't resist but is MDC 40x better than any of those? Its good, not perfect IMO kind of dries fast but smells phenomenal. I like to test extremes in the soap world and I come to realize I'm not too fussy when it comes to most soaps they either work well or the don't for me and I haven't come across too many that were that much of a disappointment that I couldn't shave with them. i think Monsavon is a solid tallow based soap certainly more pleasant to use than most bargain brands. i am sure it will get lost in my closet full of soaps I will never finish.:rofl2:
