I found this on Daily Lather. It appears that the soap, Ariana & Evans, base is made my Oleo.

Thanks for the information. Good heavens, there are so many soaps and creams, and their creators thereof, that I get dizzy thinking about it. I had never heard of Daily Lather.

Yes, so many out there and more to come... Daily Lather is a decent resource for in depth reviews of soap and AS (and other shaving products which I have not utilized/read) . Of course these reviews are subjective but in my experience, I have found his reviews are quite accurate relative to my experiences.

The "Cognac and Cuban Cigar" is the most popular of the "Henri et Victoria" line, the soap however has a higher percentage of the scent added so those with sensitive skin may experience a reaction, not to the soap but to the bountiful scent.

I have used this soap and aftershave a couple of times a week and quite enjoy both the shave and the scent. I experienced no pre- or post-effects and found the shave quite enjoyable.

That is one of the reasons that shave soap reviews are not always 100% accurate. There is always the chance you might be the lucky one to have a reaction to an ingredient that nobody has reported having. Different strokes for different folks, indeed.

A quick inventory indicates I have enough shave soap (not counting creams) to last me until the next coming of the Messiah. I truly hope nothing “epic” arrives on the horizon. I really need nothing else for a long time. I mean, I still have a decent sized chunk of Klar Kabinette.

If that's true, and it is speculation, it's no wonder why I enjoy Ariana & Evans, as Oleo is one of my favorite soaps.

Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars

My cheekbones felt a mild burn as I used the bloom water from the soap for a quick wash. The burn flamed when I lathered with my brush and then proceeded to shave. Granted, I've had worst burn from certain soaps and creams; nevertheless, the burn from this soap was enough discomfort for me to debate whether I should wash my face, change brushes and use Castle Forbes or some other gentle product for my ultra-sensitive skin. I stayed with the same lather, however, and finished the shave.

For some reason, my straight razor added to my facial irritation. My Louper is a sweet shaver, but today it was anything but. I changed to the OneBlade safety razor. That did not help either and I ended up with an unpleasant shave and an irritated face. No Hollywood today. OY!

The soap creates copious lather, and is moist. I love the fragrance; it's robust in that delightful blend of Cognac and Cuban cigars. The glide is good, and there is sufficient residual slickness. It lacked the proper cushion, though. Or it could be that the burning sensation mimicked lack of enough cushion. Either way, I felt my skin was not as protected as I like.

Overall, this is an acceptable soaps. What would have made it a good shaving soap is better cushion and less face burning. For now, I make Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars a Third Tier soap. Perhaps that status could have changed had I had more time with the soap, but I con't think my skin can take the continued burning irritation.

I have several other fragrances to try in the next few days and will share my thoughts with you.

The Cognac and Cuban Cigars aftershave balm is quite soothing, and the aftershave splash goes well with the balm with a pleasant fragrance that last couple hours or so. I like these two after shave products from Henri et Victoria.
