I haven't tried the new formulation however in the past I've tried them all and found quite a variation in performance from one to the other. None were duds but some were really great stuff and a few were so-so.

As far as the best soap in the world goes I have always felt and still do that Castle Forbes is the one. It does everything perfectly.

IMO MDC is a little better. Haslinger has all the good points that a great shave soap needs but. Think its lacking a little in slickness and it took a bit more work to bring up the lather like i want. MDC is like magic when it comes to building lather. Not much work and you got lots and the amount of soap used to get there is so little. I still habe a hard time loading just enough as i normally end up with enough la her for another couple passes without trying.

I agree the cost with shipping is a lot, but when it lasts as long as it does its hard to beat price per gram or shave in the end. I find a few other brands do very well in a couple areas but not as well in all areas of what is needed for the best shave.

Noe this is just my opinion. Obie and Bob are the masters of soap if you ask me but mdc and cf are my top. Oleo and HK are close runners up along with Klar and Haslinger. JMO.

When it comes to "Best Soaps" anymore... I've begun to stray away from how a soap reacts to me on its own only anymore. Following a shave, I always use rub down with an alum block, followed by a little splash (mentholated ideally), and then sealed by a little balm after that. Some soaps seemingly prep my face better for that regiment than others it seems.

It might seem odd, and maybe i'm crazy, but some soaps that stand alone really well, don't play as nice with my after shave regiment as others do. That Osma soap for example, matched with just about aftershave regiment will work like a charm to make your face feel like you're 2 years old lol! Some soaps just seem to combo better with my regiment it seems.

    Gentlemen,

I have moved OneBlade, Oleo and Wholly Kaw into the First Tier. These are exceptionally good artisan soaps and cream.

I especially like OneBlade cream for its overall quality. In some ways, the cream reminds of the Castle Forbes lavender, and the more I use it the more I like it.

OneBlade comes in only one fragrance: lavender. The other two come in various scents. Regardless your fragrance preference, I don't think you'll go wrong with these products. Good stuff.

Yes, the more I use the OneBlade cream, as I said earlier, the more I like it. If you use Castle Forbes lavender, OneBlade is a good reminder of Castle Forbes lavender.

Good to have ya back Obie. And thanks for moving Oleo and WK back to the top. I think they should be in the first tier. WK is a bit on the greasy/buttery side, but IMO it has all the qualities that make for a top tier soap.

    Gentlemen,

"Staples" replaces the "Special" category in our lineup. I thought "Staples" better covers our purpose: that some soaps and creams should be staples in almost any shave den. Obviously they are quality products at a good price, the "old reliable," so to speak.

Harold, my friend, thanks for the kind words. It's good to be back talking about one of my favorite subject in the shaving world. Actually, I enjoy lathering more than any other element of wet shaving. The Zen of lathering itself soothes the soul.
