I don't know, sorry.
Have you considered "grating" it & pressing it into the bowl, instead of melting it ?
No I did not even consider that. That may be a better way to go.
Some of my soaps, I use a cheese grater & shred it & pack it into the bowl, ,,,,,after a few shaves, it forms to the bowl.
Yes, it can be heated. I found that it lost quite a bit of scent when I melted my Opus X. That is not to say it didn't smell fantastic, it just wasn't as strong. I've grated other SRD soaps with much better results.
Thanks.....ill try grating, really don't want to lose any flavor
I don't understand why you'd want to melt the soap, are you making a shaving stick?
I had a few pcs of soap some which was SRD I micro waved them and poured them in one container. The SRD was the sweet patchouli and it melted ok. i just went at it on the lowest settin on the microwave and watched it closely so it didn't over heat. just turned to liquid. hope this helps.
Hey phad, I would like to apologize for asking a question that has brought you a little confusion. Sometimes I will put soap in the microwave to liquefy it to pour into a lather bowl. To me it is a little easier and it stays with that bowl till the soap is gone. However I asked this question because not all soups are microwavable and I did not want to ruin a soap that I like very much. Hope this helps with the understanding.
Ron, my experience has been that most glycerin based soaps melt, but as suggested grating is better, mand it really helps some soaps lather better. Tc
I don't want to lose any scent so If grating works better that's what ill do....but the ole lady said I have to go get my own grater
Yes I would get a dedicated grater, the soap is difficult to clean and doesn't add any positive flavors to the kitchen:)
I did it with my first batch of SRD soap, but then decided that it would work well in the container it comes in from now on.
Sometime ago I bought SRD's Bulgarian Rose shaving soap. Although not a heavy scent, I would not want to jeopardize that scent by melting or grating. This is one of my favorite soaps.
Grating doesn't mess with the scent ,, some scent us lost in the melting process,
Thanks everyone, got a grater and it turned out good
If you are grating pick up a microplane. Works much better than your average kitchen spud grater and you can use it on both glycerin based and french milled soaps.
