What are the best soap's and pre shave soap's?

Hey guys

Just having a chat with a fella on a different part of the forum and he mentioned pre shave soap and obviously shaving soap. At the minute i am using canned shaving foam and getting spots left right and center it is driving me crazy, so i have come here to find out all the inside info i need

Definitely not what I put on my shaving brush last week after a late night out (hemorrhoid cream)...

first step is to get rid of these foam canisters
there are so many good choices scent is more subjective then performance
and so some very good performing soaps in my opinion are
-soap commander
-catie's bubbles
-calani
-barrister and mann

but be warned pretty soon you are going to find yourself buying so many different soaps that you can technically shave the entire family for a life time , but it is a part of the fun .

I've never been sold on the pre-shave soap. if you shower before shaving you don't need it and even if you don't any soap will do.

In shaving, like most of life, there is no single best anything that suits all people. The soaps and creams thread linked to will give you a good idea of the large number of excellent products that are out there. Which one is best depends on who is talking.

Personally never had much use for a pre shave routine. Me, I just wet face with cold water, lather up and shave. You just have to try different pre shave products and routines to find what fits you best.

With either there is no short cut to the best for you.

IMHO there is one clear place to start:

The humble Palmolive Shaving/Soap Stick which is available here in the UK for less than 50p.

You would struggle to find something of better quality for that sort of value.

Generally though any soap or cream that lathers up with a brush is going to give you better results than the canned goo stuff (spit).

My gateway drug (soap) was Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood, as my first non canned soap. Which led quickly to another 50 or 60 soap purchases. Hard to go wrong with TOBS if your new to the experience, makes good lather with little effort.

I am not a big fan of pre shave products. Not that they are not good, I just do not see the need. The only one still in the cabinet is Baume.be Pre Shave Gel. And honestly I can't tell any difference in quality of shave whether I use it or not. Just seems to be another layer of stuff to scrape off my face.
