Sometimes, it's nice to be wrong.

When I was new to wet shaving, I accumulated a variety of cheaper soaps. One of these was Col Conk Almond. Somehow, I dismissed it and put it away in the closet. Years go by until today I tried it again and was amazed at it's performance. How was I so wrong?
I also dismissed the commonly held belief that badger brushes were the best (yes, I know everyone doesn't think so). Turns out, I was wrong about that too. I still like my boar brushes, but my Rodney Neep silvertip easily makes a better lather, and does so much quicker.
Has anyone else had the pleasure to be wrong?

Well, Wayne, I always say I am happy to be wrong every day about something. It means I am still alive! ;)

SERIOUSLY, though, as you gather up such a wide range of things shaving-related (IF you are like me), you go through periods of stuff such as 'Oh! Badgers and thin concaves and MDC!',
Down the road, you are swishing Trumper's limes around with an Omega boar and wiping it off with a wedge.

I also have put things away until it clicks to me on how to use it. Then, it works great.

So don't be so hard on yourself! Tell us about that Cobra? :D

If you ask my wife she will tell you I am always wrong, even when I am right ;)

Sharpton, I'm sad to report the Cobra is just a pic. I don't have one...yet.

I have an unopened conk almond puck as well that was given to me my first year of wet shaving.
Might have to go back and give it a fair shake as well.

Conk soap is one of my go to soaps. Always liked their performance.

Col Conk is a soap I really like.
Col Conk almond was my first shaving soap. Col Conk bayrum smells amazing to me, and what I use to measure the scent of other bayrum soaps.
I found that, once I tuned into the fact that it was a thirsty soap, I was able to make it sing.
It made very great lather for me.
Good on you for making this "error." Now enjoy!!

Cut a grid on the puck with a knife, 6 drops or so of glycerin worked-in. ;)

It's not always easy read the situation....specially when you start with wet shaving where simple elements like the type of water or brush is determinant for a good foam.
With some creams I obtained modest results while my friends no....so I suppose was my technique...After many shaves I understood in which way have to use brush for various model of soaps and there were improvements but not for all.( my water had an hard type classification...so it's difficult lathering heavy cream or olive cream.)
But i wasn't satisfied....so I changed brush (bought a silvertip) and discovered new world.....and redescovered abandoned creams.
Good...great...amazing with cream. So I forgot bristle for silvertip ... But...But... but when I was using after a long time a semisolid italian soaps....something was different in the foam.....So I take the bristle brush...and I obtained again an amazing foam(only for italian semisolid...) and Rediscovered again bristle world
I have partially solved with another kind of brush (new synt generation...that lather very well).
Another case is when I used Tridente razors. Good and clean cut but too aggressive...i could use them only on a relax skin....so for this reasons I forgot tridente razors... but when I bought a CHarnley forest stone and used it ...wow!!! I Love tridente razors....because usng Charnley , the edge of tridente have a good finish...very smooth.
Many, many words to say that: in our beautiful passion nothing is obvious ... you always discover new things (for this reasons we spent a lot of money hahaha)

I just mailed out a nice assortment of Col Conk soaps w bowl and a brush yesterday. Hopefully someone here snagged it, sweet deal!

They all smelled pretty good to me .But, this place has ruined me. I never even tried them.

Im stuck in gear with one soap and one razor for a couple weeks now...not sure how to break the cycle

I have purchased quite a few soaps and creams over the years. Now I refuse to buy more and will instead try to use what I have, up.

Everyone raved about Tabac soap.... about a decade ago, I bought one in the glass container. I never liked it.... I could not get a decent lather out of it for some reason... good, but not great.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago, I saw the jar sitting in the back corner of the cabinet and thought... gotta get it used up somehow, so I took it with me for my next shave. I have no idea how I decided I didn't like it before... it was smooth, creamy and rich. Nice scent (OK, I always thought it had a nice scent), and it lathered up beautifully.

So yes.... it's nice to discover I was wrong!
