Using soap samples???

Let me start off by saying that I feel like I'm missing something extremely obvious here...

However, I have never figured out how to get a good use out of the "sample sized" soaps that a lot of manufacturers give away with a large order or send as samples. I've got about a gallon sized bag (not an exaggeration) of sample tins and jars of soap ranging from <1" diameter to 2" diameter that I've never been able to use.
My issue here is that without painstaking concentration and careful manipulation of my brush, I can't load my brush up with soap to lather correctly because the containers are just too small. In most cases the brush is larger than the container of soap.

So my question is - how do the rest of you use these sample containers? I'd love to put some of the sample's I've been sent to use and try out new soaps that may very well be great but not if I have to spend ten minutes loading my brush. Thoughts?

Why not use the old timey scuttles? They were made for similar sized product.

I just received samples from Wholly Kaw and was wondering the same thing... Scoop some out and put in a mug/scuttle to lather up is the best I could come up with.

Yup, just put a bit in a mug, bowl or old timey scuttle and load up your brush. I have a container where I put all my odds and sods in of the samples that did not make the cut. I use that as I would a whole container of the same soap. Oddly I did not like the samples but mashed together they don't do to badly at all.

I love it! I will definitely try that!!

When I used a sample of soap, I would just cut off a sliver of it, press it on the bottom of a cup/bowl and then go from there.
Never used a scuttle or full sized puck though so I didn't know the difference.:shrug:

This has been talked about a few times before, not sure where the threads are, but I''ll try to find them.

You take a razor blade & cut thin slices off the sample , then place in some hot water in your bowl. They will melt & lather well.

Samples are samples not meant to be everyday use. Spend the extra 10 minute to try them or toss them...............

You need a snurdler, Tc

As others have mentioned, place the sample in some kind of container/bowl/scuttle/etc and load your brush.
I usually rub the whole sample on my face and face-lather. :)

^2 scuttles/mugs/bowls/jars, etc.
Whatever will allow you to make nice lather.

Thanks for the advice fellas! Appreciate the links and ideas. I guess I was getting caught up in the fact that these samples are provided in tins and jars similar to their bigger versions and the idea that somehow they have some utility. Seems like this isn't the case and they may as well have been given out in baggies...
I'll start just shaving off bits and trying it that way. I do like the ideal of scooping all the bad ones out and mashing them all together, that sounds like a good bit of fun!

Took the advice to just mash it up and put it in a container. Mostly because it sounded fun, and partly because I like the idea of free soap... The result?

Not the best-looking soap ever. Also not the best smelling... smells like some sort of feminine christmas-y Old Spice knockoff. Better than nothing though. The lather, however, is surprisingly good. I'm thinking about using it as my travel soap for a no-fuss soap that I don't care much about
