I just got a nice little can of Sir Hare shaving soap as a gift. Its a four ounce soap in an oversized container so that you can mix right in the can. It made a nice slippery lather that had a nice clean smell to it. No heavy overblown perfume to it. If you find the stuff, give it a try. I liked it.
Just looked at their site and looks like they have 3 scents.
Which one are you using?
Just using the classic barber scent.

I purchased the Classic Barber scent. When I opened the jar, I was hit with the smell of lactic acid: think buttermilk, yogurt, sour cream or sour dough bread. Although I like all of those things for culinary purposes, it was not a scent I associate with a barber shop. The ingredient listing shows lactic acid as the final ingredient. Perhaps too much was added to my batch.
They offered to replace the jar, but it created a decent lather, so I kept it. At first, I tried covering up the lactic acid smell with some essential oils; but in the end, I just learned to live with it. I would not rate it as a top tier soap, but it is worth the price.
If I ever purchase another jar of Sir Hare, I will try Drunken Sailor which is supposed to be a bay rum and orange scent. I like bay rum soaps as long as they do not have too much clove. Ogalala Bay Rum is heavy on clove and it irritates my face.
