Has B&M discontinued their Bay Rum soap?
According to the B&M web site, the Bay Rum scent has not been discontinued, but it is temporarily suspended until the supply of West Indian Bay oil can be restored.
The hurricanes that battered the Caribbean islands last summer devastated the trees (Pimenta Racemosa) that produce the bay oil used in the Bay Rum formula. Fortunately, the tree has been introduced to other tropical areas such as Oceana, but supplies of the oil will be limited and prices are likely to increase. Because the supply is uncertain, B&M has decided to suspend production of the Bay Rum items until supply is restored.
By the way, the Bay leaves you find in the spice and herb section of the grocery store come from a different plant, Bay Laurel (Lauris Nobilis). This plant is common to the Mediterranean region rather than the Caribbean. The Pimenta Racemosa tree is related to the Allspice tree (Pimenta Dioica) that is common to Jamaica.
I looked at their site earlier but didn’t see that. Thanks for the information!!
