Picked this up at Winners today for S and Gs because of the name. I did a hand lather with it and although the lather was slick enough it seemed a bit light and airy. Will try it tomorrow morning face lathering it. Will let you know what happened then. Nice sandalwood scent so if it fails as a shaving soap it should cut the mustard as a hand soap.

Looking at my one and only shave cream (Castle Forbes) almost empty, I'm gonna have to go on the hunt.
Now I've never put much thought to soap and shave cream, and since you stated that it is light and airy, can you tell me what a light and airy soap would be good for?
What might I seek in a lather for a wedge as opposed to a full hollow?... Etc. Etc.
Should I use different soaps and creams for different grinds?
To me a light and airy lather is not much good for anything much to me. I am hoping I can get it to heavy up in the morning by loading the brush more heavily. The slickness feels fine though. If I can't get it to do that it becomes a hand soap for me.Quote:

Curiosity got the better of me so did a midnight shave. Loaded the brush long time and face lathered up. Halfway through the first pass the lather was dissipating. Added some of The Body Shop Maca Root and Aloe to the brush to finish the first and subsequent 3 passes. That got me the usual close comfortable 4 pass shave I normally get. Sooooo I would not say that Studs Club shaving soap works for me at all. OTH it works for me as a bathroom hand soap so all is not lost. Another live and learn experience that nobody else should have to go through.

I know what ya mean Bob. I hate a soap that disipates. I found that a lot when i first started trying different soaps. A thick wet lather is so much better. But getting it enough wet and still staying thick not airy/bubblely take time to figure out. I too just like my lather one way. It dont mater what razor im using. It comes in time and you will know what a great lather should be like Mike T. No mater what soap you use

I can't stand a light and airy lather, with soap thats below standards I've started using them as a pre shave face wash, it softens the beard and the extra glycerin helps slickness.

I forgot to add that an old school barber now retired had said he will sometimes use a cream with a little more lubrication to it with some blades like wedges.
Never had a fully expanded explanation though and was reminded of that conversation with Bobs description of this one.
Some guys have noted that some blades simply have a tendency to pull or stick to the face..
Anyway thanks for the suggestions on soap, I received a couple pm and have a couple that I'll be trying out and comparing to my CF.

Thank you for your thoughts. Although there are some good artisan made shaving soaps, a far bigger number do work better as hand soaps. Sometime I wonder if the soap maker even wet shaves.
