Not much more to say, if you like the fougere (and boy howdy do I), it's now available in the 'brain bowl'. Sigh, another soap order.

I was just on their site yesterday and I noticed this.
My question, though, is whether it's worth it. The bowl is 200g net weight, which is the same as the jar. So it's 20 Euros more for the same amount of soap, and the only difference is the wooden bowl? I admit I still want the bowl, but I doubt the cheapo in me will ever allow me to spend that much money on it....
Thanks Steve. That is great news. I like the Fourgere the best and now the brain bowl to go with it. And the price is right too
The original is now in a new bowl (2 actually, 1 and 2 colors). It isn’t a ‘brain bowl’ and kind of looks like the old La Toja Manitiales wooden container. The 2-tone looks interesting.
Cheers, Steve
its still cool,, but the brain bowl looks awesome,,,, 2 on the way again thanks my friencd
It's like crack..........MDC! :D
Years ago I bought a crate of their basic bath soap they call "Bread Soap". it must have taken me 5 years or more to finally go through it. I still have my brain bowl of shave soap I bought 10 years ago.
Hard to use that stuff up!
FYI, the packing peanuts they use are made of aerated corn according to the card included in my last order. If you don’t re-use them, you can just place them in water and they’ll dissolve. Of course, I’m wondering if a little salt and onion powder might be a better solution for the ‘corn peanuts’.
Cheers, Steve
Steve, your knowledge is endless! :tu
very nice and elegant wooden bowl.
I’d like to have one of the lavenders in the new wooden ‘bowl’, but am still working on the last brain bowl. I’m planning on going to France this spring and really want to stop by MdC or maybe stay there overnight, so maybe I wait and pick out the bowl that I want.
It is hard to use the stuff up though! And people complain about the price (actually not bad for 200g) and shipping, but it lasts forever.
I like the practically of being able to store and stack the original containers...
But...
There is nothing cooler looking than a brain bowl if you display your soap.
Pete <:-}
I love MdC, especially the fougère, but $95 delivered is extreme.
Don’t know where your shopping
To my door 67.50. We don’t pay VAT
What am I missing? I put one in my cart, with my USA address, and got a total of 84.20 euros. Attachment 302267
I would love to only pay $67.50.
here it is , even less than I said ,, but its the jar, so if you must have the bowl then I guess its higher,, plus the shipping on it is higher don't know whyAttachment 302273
Joseph,
Are you signed into a US account? They default to EU prices which include 20% VAT. If you’re signed into a non-EU account, they deduct the VAT.
Cheers, Steve
The 84.20 is without the VAT. Shipping seems to be high on the bowl.

If you’re just buying a brain bowl, the shipping will be higher because they essentially double box it IIRC. They pretty much have to because the soap is unprotected. But 27€ isn’t that much for Colis/EMS, all the expedited international rates are about 25 USD per pound (~2 kilos). So for a pound and a half, $35 is about normal.

I forgot where I read this, but isn't the brain bowl advertised as 200 but really 220+ grams? Not that this significantly brings the price/gram cost down.
I think that's about right,, its more than the jar from my experience.if this is your first go with it, try only 8 swirls around the soap first. I learned over the last 4 years it really depends on water, but it don't take much, I am down to 5 swirls now.
Yes my brain bowl also had about 220g according to it’s gross weight and the reported weight of the bowl.
I use about 15 light ‘swirls’ on the soap in the jar, and that will load a good sized brush. That’s good for my usual 2 passes with likely enough left over for a third pass.
Cheers, Steve
Gentlemen,
I remember the first Martin de Candre I bought, some years ago, was the brain bowl. It had the original soap in it. The bowl lasted me, if I am not mistaken, about two years of frequent use. This year, I almost bought the brain bowl fougere, but then opted to buy it in the jar instead, that along with the rose. I like the fougere fragrance here, and I've always been a sucker for the rose scent.
