Default I really really want to like this, but.....

So I was checking out Obie’s post about tier soaps, after much deliberation I decided to grab myself some Geo. F. Trumper shaving soap with lime, and the face feed to go with it.
I really really want to like this soap, I love the smell but I hate the way this soap acts when applied, I’ve tried different brushes (badger and silver tip and horse hair). Every time I apply a lather I feel like it’s a race to shave. After application it seems to just disappear after a few minutes, I decided to time it to see how long it took for the lather to fade after 1 minute it had faded significantly and after 3 minutes it had practically disappeared altogether, it just doesn’t behave like any other soaps I’ve ever used and this just doesn’t seem normal. It seems such a highly rated soap and I just can’t see its worth myself.

I’ve taken a couple of photos a few minutes apart. (Sorry that you have to look at my ugly mug!).

Has anyone any experience of this?

I have to agree with you. You do have an ugly mug! Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

But you are not alone. I find the same issue with some soaps. This I won't put up with and they become shower soap. I good soap will go on three times as thick in your first post. 1/8"+ thick and creamy on your face. Like a layer of Coolwhip. When the soap is so thin you can see through it it's not even close to my liking. Check out a few shave vids. I like RUD. He puts on some lather! His vids are best to watch as his mono-tone voice is harsh to listen too.

Looks like not enough soap and too much water. It's a hard triple milled soap so load it like you hate it long time to get enough soap into the brush. When you get enough soap into the brush add a little water at a time to get that rich creamy lather to shave with.

I struggle with some soaps too. I have founds that some are not easy to face lather with. That particular brand is one I find easier to bowl lather with. I only bought it once, because I prefer to face lather. There are some highly acclaimed soaps out there that aren’t my shtick. Try some different methods of getting a good lather, and don’t be afraid to experiment with blooming the puck, loading more, adding water. Some soaps also are not very friendly with hard water.

Not sure how long you load your brush, but load for longer, or you could try blooming the puck (adding a bit of hot water to the top of puck for 2-3 minutes to soften it) so that it makes it easier to transfer the soap onto the brush.
    Good luck.

Gentlemen, thanks for your input, there are some good suggestions there the I have not tried before and I will be giving them a go over the weekend. As some of you do I prefer to face lather so I’ll give blooming a go first and see how that changes things.

Gasman; I knew I had it coming so I got in there first . Plus banter is so hard to construe over written text!

I found this video helpful in creating a good lather . I also face lather and find some hard soaps take much more loading than softer soaps. Good luck with your experimenting and let us know how it goes.

So are you 'soaking' the brush? Is this the cream or a puck?
