I received a bar of this soap from "ShavingSamurai" as a gift. I never used it. Can anyone who has, chime in. It's odd shaped, like a little fat rectangular bar of soap, not round like most shave soaps. Do I just toss it in a scuttle or mug and go for it?
With all the soaps I've had, if I want it to fit into a container, I pull out a cheese grater and have at it. In the past, this involved making pucks of soap fit into white plastic containers with black screw on tops, but the same could be done with any (I'd guess) soap into any container. Just get all the shavings into the desired recepticle, add a little warm water if you need to, and pack the soap down with a flatish object (I have found that a thumb or the bottom of a shooter glass work well).
Hmm. :thinking: Coffee lovers pay a small fortune for tampers to ram coffee grinds in to espresso machine baskets. I wonder if there's a market for shaving soap tampers? :DQuote:

Actually with the MWF, which some people find somewhat fickle when making lather, I think the grate-n-smash method helps you somewhat with lather making...
I'll probably do the grate and smash, What about the double boiler method?
Hard milled soaps won't melt, so ya gotta do the grate-n-smash :rofl2:
OH yeah do not try the microwave the bubbly burned stuff will be yer soap....

Yup, I suspect your have a bath soap bar. The shaving soap is cylindrical, hockey puck-like, but much blanched, white even.:D

:roflmaoNo doubt, it's Mitchell's wool fat, just not their shaving puck. check their web site, They sell these little yellow wrapped bars or soap, very small, hotel size to be exact. I grated it with a cheese grater, added water and it's good. The grater I have makes it very fine, I added water and formed it. I have soft water, so most soaps work better for me. This soap was a gift along with some Col Con Glycerin soap. I don't think I ever said it was shaving soap, did I? just Mitchell's wool fat. I think I asked what I could do with a bar of soap? I do realize they make pucks as well. Funny thing, with a computer you can actually check web sites and stuff !:roflmao

Why thanks Mate! My grated Mitchell's bath bar turned out OK. Not bad for a soap. I'm a shave cream guy....I have an array of soaps and creams, as I said, that Mitchell's was a freebie, With my soft water, it works...
It's been stated already, but I have to state my opinion - of course :D. It sounds like a bath soap. I bought a bar of their bath soap - a huge oval-ish bar. It is outstanding (as a bathsoap, not as shave soap). I may have found my go-to for the shower. It's not cheap, but the bar is really large and should last a long time.
Oh, and I love their shave soap too. I think it helps to use a little less water than with other soaps.

Yes, I don't think I ever once said that it was a shave soap, only a small bar and was asking if anyone had used it as such, shaved it down, or tried to melt it, you know....They do make wonderful soap, all around. Thanks

One reason I particularly like the MWF is for me it has little or no aroma. I throw a dab of whatever flavor cream in the lathering bowl with it and one isn't clashing with the other. When I lather with any soap I sprinkle a bit of hot water on the puck to soften it while I'm in the shower. A trick I picked up from one thread or another somewhere along the way. Seems to me to work very well with some of the harder soaps.
I bought a "bar" of this, it is OK. I like smelly creams but it is fine no probs.
I find that if you use MWF on its own, you do get sudden whiffs of the soap later in the day, mainly when you are moving around. It's quite nice. It doesn't smell of vanilla but it reminds me of it in nature, rich, sweet and clean.
