The art of shaving.

I recently ordered a sixpack of samplers from " art of shaving " on ebay for 6$.(still available) I have wanted to try out this stuff, and I allways try to get samples from a lot of different brands.Anyways, I shaved with it today, the sample consists of preshave,cream and aftershave lotion.I got the type with no scent.
I have to say the experience was very nice.
The preshave is the most effective I have tried so far, but very very greasy.
The shaving cream is kind of love/hate, it actually doesn't lather up, and I hate that.However it gives you a very thick and nice coat when applied with the brush.I mixed in a couple of teaspoons of water.
I have to admit that this stuff has incredible loob, and is very skin friendly.Last, but not least, the balm.
Very very good! I shaved this morning, and now my face still feels extremly soft.
All in all I have to say that the art of shaving products is really the best I have used when it comes to funcion.I would actually say they are as good as my CF products.But they have none of that nostalgic feeling, I really prefer my shaving products to be more "old school".However, I will probably order the whole set anyway.75$, and IMO worth it.

I agree on all counts, especially the pre-shave. Both AOS and T&H are available locally for me but in pricing, AOS won out hands down, $22 vs. $55 (can you say "markup"?). I'm tempted to try the soap as it remains a tallow based and has gotten good reviews from the same folks who swear by Tabac, which I love as well. Regarding your thoughts on packaging, I would be that were they to put their product into a tube, the stuff would move even better than it does

Their creams and soaps are really very good - and yes - a little expensive. Try the soaps! The Sandalwood has an outstanding scent. Very dry. The soap also lets you stay with that "old school" feeling. IMHO...:D

I see no real benefit from the pre-shave oil.

I guess you would have to use a lot more of it dough, since it doesn't lather up.As for the cost effectivnes regard.

my feeling exactly. shave cream very good. soaps stellar. preshave blech - might as well get a jar of kastor oil and rub it all over your face. The ASB makes me break out but that's me. Their rose hydrosol is a nice aftershave by the way if you are into that.

I can't believe you guys don't like the preshave!!! I agree that it is extremly greasy, thats why I apply it before shower or/and hot towel.Since its not water solubale it woun't loose its effect, but the mess is minimal.I guess every man has his own taste tough...

PS: Do you guys aply the cream directly from the tub, or do you mix with water as usual?

I load the brush with cream in my palm or in a bowl, as I would with soap, then build lather directly on my face.

I lather it up with water and brush like every other cream I own. I don't think there is anything "unlatherable" about it.

I found the pre shave made me break out - which isn't surpising since it's just oil.

I see, the stuff I got in the sample was impossible to lather up.It also said on the package to apply it directly on the face...

I recently acquired AOS's pre shave oil (lavender and lemon) after I had run out of Castle Forbes pre shave. Yes, it is greasy, but the scent is excellent (little wonder considering AOS's background), and the extra protection is indeed very good.

The cream lathers up like a dream. While its scent is far less prominent than CF's, the lather itself is equally good or better (only tried it two times so far). Whatever you got, it must be either a bad sample, or you must be doing something wrong, I think.

I have about 10 differnt creams and 5 different soaps, all of them give great lather.The thing is, it wouldn't build up in the bowl.(I've tried two times, very little water, slowly adding.) But once I applied it on my face it was very dence and thick.
So mabe the sample stuff isn't consentrated, like pre mixed.After all it worked like a dream.If you guys says it lathers fine, then there is just another reason for me to get it.Int. that you mention the CF BeBerlin, that is my favoutite brand.And I just bought a lot of different creams and lotions from them.Sadly I have to say that I tought the AOS was better...

BTW: If you buy something from Trumper.com.You will get 4 different creams, 3 different skin food and 8 different colognes

Weird that you couldn't get the cream to lather, it lathered up for me in under 30 seconds and was really thick... :)

I really enjoy AOS creams. Ive been really tempted to get the unscented soap. The smell of there unscented actually has a good smell to me unlike a lot other unscented stuff out there. I also have never had any isue with lathering the cream.

I use three AOS products, all with a sandalwood scent which I like very much. I use the preshave oil, the shave cream and the aftershave balm. All the products are excellent. I did not believe the preshave oil would be a benefit until I started using it. It does make a pronounced difference in the comfort of the shave and is removed during the shave process, so none remains after shaving. I have found the best way to apply the oil is to first make sure my face and my hands are very wet. Then the oil goes on well and I just wipe my hands with a towel to dry them. No oil remains on my hands. Just a little goes a long way.

What does the pre shave actually do? Is it just lubrication or do they perform another function as well?
