Folks,
There are lots of great soaps and cremes out there, and
I've had the privilege to have used a few of them. Some
of my favourites in terms of scent and performance just
irritate my face:
CF Limes: Wow, amazing scent, unbelievable lather. I
love this stuff, but can't use it... *sigh*
Musgo Real: Nice scent, great performance. I can get
amazingly smooth shaves with it, just not comfortably.
Do any of you find yourselves in the same unfortunate
position?

+1 here as well for Musgo. Not good for my face, no matter how much water I use. I think I must be alergic to menthol. My face reacts angrily to it...Quote:

I had a bad reaction to MWF. It has been the only one ever to really bother my skin. I could feel it after the first pass and finished with some Nancy Boy replenishing to calm my skin down.
Good thing I got it on the BST for a song w/o the dish.
I had some burn from Colleen's Lime Margarita, which was a darn shame cuz I love the smell of that stuff...
I have a man's skin, not very sensitive, and a man's approach to skin care (as long as it doesn't hurt, I'm fine with it). Having said that, I'm sure there are some essential oils that I would not want in my soaps or cremes (toxicodendron radicans comes to mind), but then I'm pretty sure no one, or at least no one in their right mind would add this to a soap.
There are of course some fruits, vegetibles and herbs that are know to have irritating properties; any type of citrus, or mango are good examples. Citrus oil is after all used as a degreaser and mango skin is known to be very irritating.
i have issues with the almond scent GFT and TOBS use in their almond creams.
I'm sorry to hear this--Musgo is a wonderful cream, but I guess you have a bad sensitivity to it. There is so little menthol in this cream that it cannot really be felt. Perhaps the lanolin is causing the bad reaction?Quote:

The soaps and creams from castle forbes tend to give me a slight irritation. Nothing serious enough to stop me from using them. The Gentlemen's Quarter products are for my skin the mildest and are the ones I prefer on a daily basis. They are less expensive too.
I have the same thing with menthol, the slightest amount and I feel a burn within seconds. Same with sandalwood. Both are scents I like too:shrug:.Quote:

TGQ Cavendish Black is a great performing cream with a top shelf scent, but after a few shaves, my face starts to tingle. It really is too bad because I'd like to use it more.

Hi, I have had similar baffling reactions to certain shaving creams, generally the high end stuff. After doing some investigations, it transpires that my face & neck are allergic to glycerine. I'm not the quickest strop in the West and part of my routine is to lather up and leave the lather on my face while I strop my razor. Yesterday I lathered up with Col Conk's Bay Rum while I stropped. I may have been paranoid but I thought I could feel some burning so I rinsed my face and brush and opted to shave with Art of Shaving Sandalwood Shaving Cream. The shave went well and was devoid of any redness, burning or irritation.
Today I may whip up some Luxury Lavender and apply it to my face and NOT SHAVE and see what results. I'm glad to learn I'm not the only one with sensitivity issues.
*ALSO*--In another thread someone mentioned that many members here when using soap typically use a seperate bowl to create the lather. Is this to conserve soap or to dilute the concentration of the soap? The latter was suggested in the thread.
Interesting. I have used Taylor of Old Bond Street "Sandalwood" with no irritation at all. You might have skin that is sensative to the essential oils in the soap. Your idea of trying it again without shaving sounds like a good idea. Good luck. Also if you continue to have a problem you might try either Colleens( soap mistress) or Mama Bears scent free soaps.
