ok now before you get all hoopty-ha on me for the title hear me out...

i shaved with this soap for about 3 weeks now. i had the marlborough scent and ordered the almond scent from srd which arrived 2 weeks ago. i have a stuborn beard and from it the hair when growing makes my skin tough. even my tattoo artist after tattooing under my chin and over my adams apple said "you have some real tough skin" and later elaborated that it seems to stretch forever yet has no give to it.

i soaked the brush in near boiling water (not quite bubbly, nowhere near a rolling boil because i didnt wanna ruin the bristles, i heard boiling water is bad for brushes), its a crabtree & evelyn best badger. this soap lathers up quickly and rich. this soap is no joke. if it wasnt for my obnoxiously sensitive skin, id be priasing this soap saying its half the price of mwf when bought with the wooden bowl and lathers richer and better and quicker than mwf imo.

NOW with that said, heres why im posting. if you have sensitive skin. if you break out, have raw tender skin eventhough your shaving right and have properly sharp equipment or as in my case get really irritated and itchy from stuff like aftershave lotions etc, i dont reccomend this soap. when i applied it to my skin i got itchy immediately. it wasnt to the point where i had to stop and scratch but it wasnt just a tingle. stick to mwf if you have sensitive skin.

again this is just my experience. everyones skin is different. d.r. harris soap would be my favorite soap if it wasnt for my obnoxious skin.

I do not think you are the only one that has had skin sensitivity issues with DRH. Unfortunately it's hard to know what any one person is going to react to. Trumper and TOBS almond creams make me itch and turn red, and they are considered great products for people with sensitive skin. MWF is great for most people, but anyone that reacts to lanolin should stay the heck away.

So I think your warning is well received, and that really stinks because DRH is great if it doesn't give you hives so you are being deprived.

Nowe for the important part - if you get an AOS sandlewood soap you won't miss drh marlborough, and if you get an AOS Liemon soap you won't miss drh arlington)

and colleens soaps make my face twitch. it's almost random I think. I too tend to do better with EO soapds (like QED) but some say EO's give them more trouble because EOs are more complex chemicals than FOs.

I think at the end of the day there are no magic predictors - unfortuntaley the only way to know if you are snesitve to a soap is to buy it and try it

Sad but true. Happily if you find that a soap or cream doesn't agree with your skin you can usually put it in the classifieds and get most of your $ out of it. I am lucky in that QED, Harris and some of the other soaps/creams that irritate some users don't affect me that way.
