What cream is good for acne prone, irritable skin?

I recently decided to go with a safety razor after years of getting a terrible shave and irritation with my mach 3.

Trumpers violet shaving cream and coral skin food got some great reviews so I went ahead and ordered it without even looking into the ingredients (which weren't listed on amazon). I now see that it has quite a few ingredients that are known to irritate the skin. I haven't tried it yet but I would rather not risk a breakout unless someone can vouch for it being okay for sensitive skin. I'm thinking maybe I should just return it.

Does anyone know of a cream that works well but has no irritating ingredients in it? My dermatologist told me to shave with dove soap, could I lather that on my badger brush and shave with it?

i have never used any of the soaps you are talking about but i do have sensitive skin, though not necessarily acne prone. i have always been more into the natural soaps, if you can find one with Jojoba i know that is supposed to be good for acne prone skin and i use it after a shave or after i scrub my face and i like it.

i think any soap will lather with a brush and mug (sure there will be exceptions) but it won't be as moisturizing and might not last as long.

the soap i am using right now and really like is actually made locally, but the ingredient that makes it different then the rest is it has clay in it (bentonite i believe) which seems to make it stay on my skin and not dry up. i use this in combo with either Nature's Gate Cucumber shave cream, or Kiss My Face Peachs and Cream shave cream. i also add a little bit of organic vegetable based glycerin (Now is the brand name). i have tried just the soap and its not bad but i like Uber lather and it works really good.

You certainly 'can' lather with dove, but it's debatable whether or not you can get a good enough lather to actually give you a passable shave.

First, you might consider a boar brush. They're much stiffer, and 'may' work better for whipping up a lather on harder bar soaps.


Also, you might take a look around for soaps with little/no fragrance. There's several of them out there.

Those VDH soaps seem cheap, well formulated, and readily available around me. I'll probably give the glycerin one a try.

something else you can do that i forgot to mention is since you have done the research to figure out the ingredients you don't want, why not post a list in here so guys can check their favorites and tell you if they have them.

Just curious if you use an alum block after shaving.It is a pretty strong astringent and can really help with acne and irregular skin.(2 passes after shaving for me)

I just recently heard of the alum. It sounds like it would be very drying to the skin, is that the case?

The Van Der Hagen looks like a solid choice at this point. Few ingredients, high glycerin, and good reviews.

I don't find the alum to be drying.More like tightening.Maybe a combination?VDH and alum.

or the gentlemans refinery this is a nice cream but dont read or believe his barbers tips where guys ask questions cuz he just pushes his products and says to use everything, not to use a straight or de, not to wash your face before shaving, all the stuff we say to do here he says not too...but his shave cream is nice.

personally I would try the shave den cream first cuz you can buy a small sample for like a buck or two and then if yo udo order it is the cheapest...like 7 bucks for a 4 oz dish. I use it ocassionally by itself or as a mix with soap and it lathers fantastic.

You could also try Speick cream from Germany, I believe there are a few sellers in the US.

A natural shave cream packed with stuff full of goodness for your skin, not sure on the exact ingredients though but I find it helps alot!

Almond soaps like p160, Cella, and Valobra. Proraso/CO Bigelow.

T & H Unscented.

These are just guesses. I know the Almond soaps are good for sensitive skin, for acne though I would look at preshave.

Use a good face scrub, avoid alcohol A/S, Use a witchhazel like Thayers.

Just guesses but something to look at.
