We drag incredibly sharp pieces of metal across our faces. We aren't afraid of a little lye. :D I think between the goggles, and the rubber gloves, there is a better chance that you will spill because of lack of vision, or feel. Just treat it like a beer. I don't think I have ever spilled one of those.
So does anyone have a good, from scratch, recipe they wouldn't mind sharing? I have some sort of Middle Eastern store near my house that is a good, cheap source for palm and coconut oil, so I would like to include those ingredients.
Anyone ever try to make shave cream? Is this something that one can do at home?
Shave cream is a wide field.
I've seen a lot of recipes, heard a lot of talk, seen pics etc
but all those creams are VERY different.
They have a lot more technical issues than bar soap.
They can get runny after 6 weeks, glycerine can separate out and the cream collapse.
You just wouldn't expect from such a shape less mass, LOL
Some guys make them with stabilizers, humectants, preservatives, some without.
Some want them more firm, some want them like whipped cream.
Its really miles of differences in cream soaps.
Technically its not a problem. You have oils, two different lyes, glycerine
or whatever else you want in there and then you soap it hot process.
Snowdrift Farm has a lot of material about it on the web.
KOH and NaOH
Cream soap is a mixture of liquid soap (KOH)
and hard soap (NaOH)
Well, happy soaping then.
A) If you are a money maker and don't have the time - No.
B) If you have lots of time on hand - Maybe
I just found a good performing substitutes to cut costs:
1) replaced preshave oil with Dr. Bronners soap which has a lot of oils in it. I bought a big bottle for $10.50 and it will last me a whole year! Plus my shaving soap lathers quicker, thus I use less shaving soap.
Again, its back to A & B.
