Prairie Creations Tallow Based soap

Hello Gents,

I just wanted to see if any of you have used the Prairie Creations new tallow soap. I recently got a puck of the almond and was really impressed. The lather was nice and slick with good cushion, and the scent was very nice. All in all, it performed very well. I've contacted the proprietor, and she's agreed to make an avocado scent for me :beer1:

Looking at the website, the selection doesn't look impressive, but if you drill down you'll find that you have a tremendous option of scents to choose from. I don't know anything about the other products, but I find it pretty cool that they'll work with you to make a custom scented soap. The best part, is that it's cheap $8 for a puck in a container and $6.50 for a replacement puck. I don't think it's triple milled, so I'm not sure how long it will last. However, with all of the reformulations out there, it's nice to see another tallow based option from a small soaper's business.

It's not triple milled, to have that it must be made with a big machine that home crafters just don't have. Plus triple mill soap the glycerin and excess oil must be removed from the soap so it won't gum up the machine. And by removing those qualities many claim you also lose some of the moisturizing qualities.

I have found that my soap wears very well and lasts. I have also heard that from others who are using it. Granted the recipe just went into production so it hasn't been around long enough to say just how many shaves someone can get out of it. They do weigh a hefty 5 ounces.

I ordered some lavender from P-C so hopefully I'll be able to review the soap when it hits my brush. I always favor EO's as FO's in general tend to burn my face.

Which version did you get? I know that both is available on some of the scents. I think the next scent that I have coming is called Cool Spring. I will post a full review of the soap as well when I the "new" wears off, and the exuberance is replaced with objectivity. It's pretty cool though.

I'm biting too... Bay Rum.

I love my tallowy lathery goodness.

I was torn between EO and FO, but I wasn't crazy about the EO fragrance options. I almost pulled the trigger on Cedar wood.

I give my full endorsement to Prairie Creations shave soap. This is an excellent lathering soap that has a slickness that is unrivaled. It also leaves the face feeling pretty good at the end.

I just got my Bay Rum tub today when I got home from work and I am very impressed. So, many thanks to Kristie over at PC -- I'll be buying another tub of an EO version shortly.

It's good to hear that! I always worry when I recommend something like this, which I really don't do very frequently. However, I love the boutique soap idea, and I really think it's a good product. I'm glad to see that you agree, and I'm not on an Island ...

Yes. She actually has a pretty cool story about how she got into soap making due to a son with severely sensitive skin and making products that he could tolerate. Seems like good people from what I know.

My opinion of MWF is not the popular opinion. I think it's way overrated. So, to answer your question, it blows mwf out of the water.

Have been using her soaps for a couple shaves now, and have to say it performs very well. Very slick...my razor glides effortlessly through my whickers using this soap. A definite recommend from me. :tu

I'm assuming it's suppose to be good for the skin, since the two choices are Beer or Aloe Vera, but to tell you the truth, I don't know. I'd never heard of beer in shaving soap, so I thought I'd give it a try. :) It's definitely not for the scent as explained here.
