My next is one I got at Saphora it's called Anthony's The also gave me some preshave oil which was very cool.:D

I just got a big pack from Art of Shaving today. I'll be trying these over the week and I'll post a review of my thoughts on them.
just tried Taylors of old bond street lavender - didnt much like the smell - and it seemed to dry out relatively fast on me - though i am new so it takes me a LONG time to shave.
I also tried the Sandalwood Vulfix shaving cream from Classicshaving.com - Love the smell and it preformed very well -
Just tried the Trumpers Rose cream today - and loved the smell - and the shave was great - that stuff really works great -
I have about 10 samples of the truefitt and hill line and the Trumper line to through and will let you know what i think )
Where do you go to get the samples? I have just purchased my first straight razor, and don't know anyone else who uses one to give me an idea of what I might prefer, and samples sound like a great way to find out... just don't know where to go to get them.
I don't know about obtaining samples, but I'd give the classicshaving brand soap cakes a try first. They are my favortie (cf. Williams, Colgate, Surrey,etc). I have yet to try the tubs of cream, but they seem to be a favorite of the senior members here.Quote:

I believe he gets them directly from the purveyor. I would contact them and ask for samples. That's what I'm going to do this weekend. It's worth a try. I've been using Trumper and E&C creams exclusively and think it's time to see what else is out there.

Just started with the Williams cake ($2 at fry's) and picked up some glycerine based cake from the same shop I picked up my blade from. Only complaint with the williams is that the lather (while lasting) is a bit thin on my face and very watery (probably a problem with technique, will be searching the forums tonight for it)
Sounds like a little too much water in the lather. Keep trying! It took me several shaves before I figured out the right combination. Then I tried creams and had to learn all over again!
It's easy to add water, but it seems a little harder to get it out once it's in the lather mix. I soak my brush while showering, then turn it upside down to let the excess drain. Once water stops running out of the brush, it's lather time.
It's not a sin to relather during a shave! I feel pretty safe in saying most, if not all, of us have done it more than once.
To take care of the drying part I just lather part of my face and neck at a time.Quote:

Just sent off an email to Taylors of Old Bond Street asking for samples of their products (that would have been at about eleven on saturday night) and got a response this morning. The person responding to my inquiry was extremely accomodating and said they would send out a package of samples (woot woot!)

That is the response I received from them verbatim. I'm still waiting for the samples, but I didn't inquire all that long ago.

Don't know if this is normal for Taylor's, but they did send a message earlier today saying that they were going to send it out today. Not to say they will, but has anyone else gotten a similar response?

I'm hoping to follow in the footsteps of one of my idols, Dr. Phong. I've written to several companies and received positive responses from Crabtree and Evelyn, Taylor's, Trumper's, and Truefitt and Hill. I've not yet received any, but I now feel like a kid before Christmas...I can't wait for the packages to arrive!!!
