As all of this it is personal preference but I have never found there quality to be any good. I think it also depends what else he has tried if he jump from Can Goo or a cheap bad cream i n to it, well it probably is better. IMHO there is a whole world of stuff that is better. in all price ranges.
I'll see what he's got and if he'll part with any and try them out .and post results accordingly.
The almond soap has the best scent available but the quality ends there. The soap does not lather or stay moist. The bowl is good for my DR Harris refills!
Although I fully agree with others in terms of the somewhat diminished cushion and lasting power of the lather, I have never had a problem with it. Disclaimer: I have very soft water and I can whip just about anything. With this soap, I can produce good quality lather that lasts long enough on my face to give me very good shaves. I understand that I am in a minority here but like this soap. I find that this soap provides enough cushion as well as excellent glide and conditioning, not to mention the scent (almond). Under the right circumstances, this soap should work well for most people. I would definitely not put this soap in my top tier of products but for the $11 I paid for the soap and the wooden bowl, I am satisfied with it. If you guys have problems lathering this stuff, send me a PM for tips.

I can't really tell you about the shave soaps but the Sandalwood shave cream is actually pretty nice. The scent is not a true sandalwood, but the cushion it provides is decent. The Casswell-Massey Sandalwood Pre-Shave oil is fantastic, if you can find it! Even on there home site, it is always out of stock!
I tried one of their soaps many years ago while I was still using a DE exclusively and as I recall it was OK, certainly a step up from VDH and Williams but not as good as typical English triple Milled soaps.
I agree with what Don said. Compared to can goop, or lesser creams and soaps, it is better. But, there is alot of stuff out there that is far superior, as far as cushion, lube, slickness, lather, and scent. I have tried most of there shaving products. At first, they were good. As I started using other brands of creams and soaps, I'm no longer impressed. The greenbriar imho has a great scent but the soap is hard to get to lather, and the soap and cream drys out very fast. Almond soap is a better and fast to lather, but also drys fast and has a very bland smell. I don't care for the performance, or the scent of there sandlewood. There is so much better quality shave soaps and creams out on the market. Coolmaltbeverage, you might want have your father try, or yourself for that matter, some Mitchell's Wool Fat soap, or Tabac soap. Anything by Taylor of Old Bond Street, or Truefitt and Hill, would be a much better choice. I have tried the products I have mentioned, and highly recommend them. It might cost him a little more money at first, but in the long run the superior products will out perform and out last the Caswell- Massey stuff. Good luck and have fun.
Gentlemen,
I find Caswell-Massey's shaving soap generally good. Because of its relatively compact size in the screw-top travel jar, I have a puck of it in my travel dopp kit. I have no use for their lather shave creams, though. Their Dr. Hunter brush-less shave cream I have used and find it to be good.
Of course, Caswell-Massey's No. 6 aftershave has been in my rotation for many years. Love the stuff — I thought I should mention that for what it's worth.

Obie
Hi Obie. Just to clear things up, and make sure you know what I mean. I agree with you on C-M scents, colognes and after shave balms, they are great. Greenbriar, #6, New Port, Jockey Club, are very awesome scents and last a long time. I've have both the colognes and balms in the scents that I have mentioned, and love them.:tu Though, I'm currently out of Greenbriar cologne, and I must replace it. I also mentioned that there shave products are good, I have used them. I'm just saying imho, I have tried and found better shaving creams and soaps. I'm not downing them or saying that they are garbage, not at all. Though I find Greenbriar shave soap hard to lather, I love the scent, and will continue to use it, when I use the Greenbriar cologne. Picture this Obie, a New Port or, #6, or Jockey Club shave cream and shave soap? I would buy them, in a heart beat. I'm not bashing C-M at all. You are entitled to your opinion, and your opinion counts. Take care.
My dear John,
I very much agree with you on Caswell-Massey's overall quality products. I have used many of their offerings, and continue to do so. I did not mean to give the impression I did not like them. On the contrary, I think they have quality products.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I like their shave soap puck. It is reasonably priced, about $4, nice and simple, and the compact size is perfect for my dopp kit. In truth, this particular travel dopp kit (I have several) is one of theirs, in buffalo hide, and I like it very much.
I also have three of their shave brushes, and although I don't know who manufactures them, they are quality.
Through the years, I think I have tried all of their aftershaves and colognes. The one I like best is the No. 6, which I am never without.
I like their Dr. Hunter brush-less shave soap. I keep some handy at home and a small container in my dopp kit in case time is short for the daily shave. In fact, the Dr. Hunter shave cream is quite good stuff.
Let me see: I also have their buffalo hide tote bag, which I have used on many trips, and several other goodies. The only Caswell-Massey product I find inferior is the lather shave cream. It might work better for someone else, but it does not work well for me.
Altogether, this is an excellent vendor, with good products and fine service. I recommend them.
Regards,
Obie
