I'm on the search for a new soap after my Classic Shaving Bay Rum soap broke me out pretty good as seen here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...y-dryness.html
I guess I have to be a little more careful about the product I buy. As such, has anybody had any weird reactions to the Mama Bear line of soaps?
I've not heard of anyone having an issue with MB. You might want to look into what was IN that other soap. Was it essential oils, or FRAGRANCE oils? What was the base of the soap? What other ingredients, scents, etc? Then you can do some experiemntation with other soaps with and without some of those ingredients (you'd only need a tiny sliver to test), and learn what it is you are sensitive too. Once you know, you can be selective in the future, and hopefully never have this uncomfortable issue again.
Sorry about the allergy, but realistically no one is going to be able to tell you if you're going to be allergic or not to something unless you try it. If you feel like using some money and torturing yourself you can have a dermatologist / allergist give you an allergy skin test. It's basically a sheet that's placed on your arm for 24-48 hours that has different substances on it to determine if you're allergic to them. There are a lot of people that are allergic to types of additives that are put into soap to give them scents (for example hazelnut.)
Another alternative and probably less expensive way would be that MB offers shaving slivers for $1 of each soap. Buy a bunch of them and test it on your arm to see if you have a reaction.
There is a risk of allergy with any scented product. It does not matter if the scent is based on essential oils or fragrance oils, there is always a risk that you might be allergic to it. Also, you cannot have an allergic reaction to something you have not been previously exposed to. Sometimes it takes several exposures before you develop the sensitivity, but it always takes at least one.
