Lucky tiger anyone?

After being in this game a couple of years, I realize that it is the most "old school" products that atracts me.I love my tabac soap and eucris cologne!

Anyway, I've been reading up on some old school brands.(Yes I recently ordered a full set of proraso products;)) And the name " Lucky tiger " pops up.I understand that this brand was very popular in US barbershops, and I have to say that it looks pretty sweet.At a norwegian website they sell a full set of: Shaving cream,toner,facewash and AS lotion, in avery hansom wrapping for ca.100$
The question is: Should I go for it? (I probably will)

Anyone used this stuff? Is it any good?:shrug:

There are two Lucky Tiger product lines. The tradtional one and a modern one. I have never used the traditional products, but I have the liquid shave cream and the after shave lotion (w/ witch hazel not alcohol. Both are good, though the A/S is like putting orange-scented water on your face. The cream is fantastic actually and a little goes a VERY long way.

The traditional A/S's are supposed to be good.

Most of these old line scents you would have found in Barber Shops in the 1950s 1940s weren't there to woo the high class customers. They were there because they were cheap.

I remember when I was a little kid and my mean ol redneck dad would give me a Marine Corp type crue cut/flat top hairdo with some old Oster shears he bought from a barber friend. Then for more punishment he would take that LUCKY TIGER BuTCH HAIR WAX and make my hair stand up as staight as Don King's :soapbox: I was so humiliated even as a 9 year old kid. I've hated the name LUCKY TIGER ever since then. So I seriously doubt if I'll ever use their products. But that's unbelievable that company has been around that long. Not to mention you couldn't wash that crap out of your hair. It was as solvent resistant as STP oil treatment :soapbox:. It had a waxy, tacky, hard grease texture to it that I haven't seen duplicated since. I truly think that Lucky Tiger Butch Hair Wax would hold up under a nuclear war :rant: That crap must be made by Penzoil :mace:

JDX - you gotta let that go man, give your ol' man a break brothuh. Our dad had an old electric kit from Sears and we all got burr / crew cuts, my best friends dad did the same to them, and one other family's boys all had crew cuts, the only ones in our school, and no doubt our dads all told us how good we looked with those hair cuts and were all proud of it.
KB - that kit that you are wanting to buy comes in what looks like a nice metal can, I got the same one on clearance at a store for $15, BigSpendur is on it, the stuff is cheap. I certainly wouldn't pay much for it, what I paid is maybe what it's worth. But, everybody is different, the guy at the store that I got it at bought one for his dad and said that his dad liked it because it reminded him of the nice smell that he liked at the barbershop. And I will just speculate that they are not straight razor / traditional shavers.
If you must then I would shop around and maybe just try one of the products first instead of spending that much money. Who knows, maybe you will really like it.

Well, if you'd like to give Lucky Tiger a second chance, try their Hair Tonic. Great for longer styles. This is the stuff the barber used to put on young kids heads (that and Vitalis) to get that neat, wet, parted look. I use it on occasion to get that "50s Schoolby" look. Just wrap a towel around your neck and pour the stuff on til your hair so soaked, then comb it however you want. Its good for your hair too.

Any new road tests anyone, now that Lucky Tiger Liquid Cream is available on Amazon?

P.S. I think Hawleywood's is badge engineering for the same tackle.

i've used lucky tiger hair tonic on several occasions.. i love the smell and it's a classic.. i even once had an old man who looked to be in his 80's stop me in the laundry room and ask what it was.. he said he hadn't had a whiff of that since he was boy and i had instantly brought him back to childhood.

I have the Bay Rum and Aspen AS... I really like them, but the scent doesn't last long. If that's not a problem then go for it. They are pretty inexpensive IIRC.

I've used the shaving cream as well as the aftershave and face tonic. These are the products that were a part of the newer line that came out maybe 4-5 years ago. No idea what the older versions would be like.

I enjoyed the shave cream. Very easy to lather and the results were certainly better than average. I also didn't mind the very light orangy/citrus scent........same one the AS uses. Besides, it was gone in about 10 seconds, so no conflict with any EdTs.

I also like the aftershave/face tonic and need to reorder this soon. It's like water, as another member mentioned. No burn at all, and a very light fleeting citrus wispiness. I decant it into an atomizer and spray 2-3 times right on my face. Much easier than a splash application.

Although I've never ordered from this company, they seem to have good prices for Lucky Tiger. It's called www.vitacost.com. That'll end up being where I order from in the near future.

All in all, both items are worth a look, especially the face tonic. It's a very nice light summer aftershave.

I have used lucky tiger for years. As a newbie to straight razors though my approach has changed a little.

When using my Mach 3 in the past their liquid cream shave had been my cream of choice. It went on really light and the other nice thing about it was that it had a decreased tendency to clog up the razor between the blades, so I could get it to rinse clean and extend the use of each razor. Since switching to a straight (be it only a little over a week ago) I found that the cream broke down too quickly, and that it is easier to reapply with a standard brush and soap in a mug. So I am no longer using the liquid cream shave. I might give this a try again in the future when I am a little more proficient.

I am still using the face tonic though. I find it really refreshing and not overpowering.

I purchased the last sample size of Lucky Tiger's "Aspen" at the only local classic barbershop supply store I know of (Marvy's) and I was surprised how nice the scent was. I just apply a little more than to close/cover/disinfect and the scent can linger a few hours. Very nice stuff, I even feel the scent has complexity beyond the price. This is a product I'd go in for a whole gallon if there were other like-minded fellows in my area.

I absolutely love the new Lucky Tiger "After Shave & Face Tonic" (I think that's what's on the label). It's lightly orange/citrus which smells nice but fades away fast and doesn't interfere with your cologne, and it's very nice to my face. I still have plenty of alcohol-based A/S varieties for when I want my shaving mistakes amplified, but most of them carry considerable scent forward. The Tiger doesn't, not for very long.

Vet ikke om du har sjekket andre butikker men prisen høres nokså vanvittig ut. Jeg støtter norske butikker så mye jeg kan men hater å betale fire eller fem ganger så mye enn noe ville koste utenlands, inkl. frakt...
Brukte Lucky Tiger AS en stund da jeg var yngre, kjekt for historisk verdi men ikke luksus greie. Har du prøvd Sante sine produkter? Jeg liker deres AS og fuktighetskrem enormt.

I use the Lucky Tiger brushless shave cream as a pre-shave on occasion to soften my beard and set it up for shaving.
