On a recent trip to Italy I got a shave at the local barber. When he was done he used a "match" to stop the bleeding on a few tiny nicks. He said this is what they used in Italy because they were sanitary, just using one stick per customer then disposing of it.
I thought these were the neatest things but I have searched the web high and low and cannot find them.
On the front and back of book it says MINI POCKET then some Italian about single use.
These would be perfect for the travel bag.

They look like a regular book of matches. Is that what they are? I've never seen or heard of this in all my travels while in the Marines but then again I've never been to Italy.
To find them I googled 'Mini Pocket Styptic'. They are a dab of styptic pencil on the end of a matchstick. Cool idea.Quote:

I've never been to a barber for a straight shave... but "a few tiny nicks" seems like it would be a problem to me if I'm paying a professional to shave me.
Of course in my case it would be my fault. I'm fidgety.

Whew! I thought you meant that he used a lit match to cauterize the nicks. Glad this was clarified before I tried the lit match thing.

I know a lot of states have disallowed styptic for the obvious sanitary reasons.
In my research I found the liquid styptic, which they would apply to a piece of cotton and once done, toss the cotton away. Not sure how well the liquid works tho.
I was also wondering how "legal" it would be to purchase the vials of styptic powder and similarly use a Q-tip, or something else, to apply the powder.
Once I end up getting to that point, I'll have to research the legality of it more.
My barber gave me a book of those very styptics. He cut's my hair. I've never let him near me with his pretend straight!
They seem pretty pricey for what they are from those sources.
Want me to ask him about them? He'll no doubt do them cheaper, & I'm happy to send them on to you.
I've dabbed aftershave on a q-tip to help with nicks when I first started shaving. So if you're already taking cottonswabs on your trip, maybe that would work?
Not bragging or anything but I have a tube of the liquid styptic and I've never had to use it yet. :cool:

I tried to get some of these from our vendor, but he said that they were not used anymore in Italy by barbers due to hygienic resaons. (Don't know why exactly, but that's what he said.)Quote:
