Query for all?
Has anyone tried the Art of Shaving products? I have a tendency to have a very dry face and want to try a different shave cream. I am considering trying the AOS products, specifically the Sandalwood line. Does anyone have any experience with this? Did it moisturize your face, smell good, leave you wanting more? Are there any other products that you recommend. Remember I need high moisturizing capabilities. Thanks for the help!

Yes. I own the sandalwood shaving cream and I would recommend it to you based on your criteria, it does moisturize (I use ASB), it smells great, and I always want to use it in particular within my line up. But if you need high moisturizing grab an ASB on top of the stuff. Good luck. Ohh what have you used prior to this?
As a newbie, and maybe I'm looking too hard, but what is ASB? In regards to your question, I went from using the canned stuff straight to Truefit and Hill 1805. I used that non-stop for the last couple of years. I have recently tried an organic product from Aubrey Organics. It's okay, smells great but doesn't lather like a normal cream. The other problem is that I cant use my brush with this cream, I have to put it on with my hands. So I want to go back to traditional creams. Thanks for the quick answer.

I use AOS soap (sandalwood) and AOS pre shave oil (lemon) both great products , the sandalwood mixed with lemon makes a great scent kind of light and fresh . the soap and pre shave oil might seem a bit pricey but they both last a long time , so there well worth the money
the PSO comes in a variety of scents and functions ... for dry skin , oily skin ,etc

I reviewed it: http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...andalwood.html. Looking back, the review is a bit too favourable. I'd give it something like 80% today.
As far as recommendations go, if you can get a hold of an Edwin Jagger sample set, you might want to give it a try. Personally, I like it almost as well as Castle Forbes, but the scent is far less intrusive (CF's "Cedar &Sandalwood" is rather strongly scented, and may not be everybody's cup of tea). The EJ aftershave should provide all the moisturising you will need. That said, the "Aloe Vera" might be even more interesting for you. Reviews can be found in the review sections.

I have only used the two shave creams, the Lavender and the Sandalwood, they are both great for lather, and do perform as top line creams... The only thing I would watch, is with the Sandalwood, the scent is rather strong, and I would advise against it if you have sensitive skin...It is actually right at my threshold I can just barely tolerate it... YMMV
Thank you all for the responses. I dint think Im too concerned with string scented products. Then again all I have to compare to is T&H 1805. I'll have to give all this stuff a try. I've seen numerous fellows giving positive reviews of the Castle Forbes stuff, that may be first on the list? I guess as a newbie to straights the needs are different than the multiblade must haves. Whereas they'll shave pretty much anyhing anywhere, no matter the blade condition or the product that goes on your face. I want to really savor this process and as much as the straight razor itself matters, so too does the other shaving accompanyments. I'll do some testing and let you know. Thanks to all.
I have the lavender AOS cream and a sample tube of the unscented. IMO they are good creams, but certainly not the best. You can not go wrong with them.
I agree, while the creams are indeed good; they're not great. The soaps on the other hand, are among the best I've tried. IME. Although they can be pricey; a couple times a year they run 25% -50% off sales.Quote:

I have the Lavender line. The cream smells great! A little pricey. The after shave smells nice and is moisturizing, but it leaves you with a oily face. I don't like it so much because my face is oily as it is. I recommend the cream, it's great, the preshave oil is good too, it washes off easy. I use the oil to draw my lines, the cream tends to hide the hairline.
