Thanked: 137Crabtree & Evelyn
Hey folks, I was in a posh local department store this afternoon, browsing through their toiletries section, and came across a huge glass jar (5.3oz) of Crabtree & Evelyn "Nomad" shave cream for sale, along with the entire Tabac range, some TOBS creams and brushes, Pre de Provence hand cream (but no PdP shaving stuff), and a big old bunch of aftershave etc. I have the same scented shower gel and love the smell, so am very tempted to get this jar. However, at $62 NZD it's a bit on the steep side for me, so I'd want to know that it's a decent quality cream before I shell out that much for it. [EDIT:]I've checked online, and none of the C&E webstores will ship to NZ, so it looks like the posh department store is my only option, just to save some of y'all from telling me to buy online[/EDIT]
I'd have asked one of the store clerks for a sample so I didn't have to ask all of y'all, but the fact they ignored me for 20min while they had a nice conversation got me so pi**ed off I just left the store in the end (have called up the store manager and complained about that now, hopefully they'll get a telling off). Poor customer service always annoys me, especially when I go the extra mile in my jobs to make sure people are happy, yet some of these same people think it's ok to ignore me, simply because I'm young, male, and don't dress in Gucci like the rest of the pretty-boy drones who go to their store.
Phew. Right, rant over. My questions, in bullet point form as always.
1. Is it slick and easy to lather (compared to TOBS - my current top-shelf cream)?
2. Is a stylish heavy glass jar filled with 5.3oz of this cream worth $62NZ (about $45US)? At that price I'd hope it would compare to CF or Caraceni or something similarly good.
3. Should I ask the rude staff to try and get me some other shaving stuff in, like the Nomad soap in wood bowl, or are their soaps overpriced for what I'm paying?Last edited by mosley59; 01-29-2010 at 01:42 AM.

I've used both the cream and the soap. The scent is great, IMO, but the performance of the cream is not among the better creams that I've tried. I like the soap better than Tabac, but be aware that I'm not among the big throng of Tabac fans that you find in the wetshaving community. I'm not sure what the price of the soap is, but if it's reasonable, you may want to pick one up. Otherwise, I'd say you have better options.

Thanked: 137So you'd class it as being inferior compared to TOBS?

Thanked: 530My TOBS (Avocado cream and Sandalwood Soap [if you haven't, try the sandalwood. Smells amazing]) cost me 30$ USD for both, including shipping, (25 for cream and soap). I've had a C&E sampler... Don't get me wrong, it's good, but I liked my TOBS more, and at that price point, definitely avoid the C&E there... It may not be overpriced considering location, but It's not worth that much compared to TOBS...
Also, if you drop that glass container, or if you drop the plastic TOBS container... Which loses?
