Tom,
I use both and have no preference. I get great shaves either way.

I've used both also. The creams are easier and produce a more luxurious lather which adheres to the razor. Personally I prefer the soaps I think thats the classic way to shave IMHO. I like either the trumpers or haslinger soaps the best.
I use Lush brand shave cream which is AWESOME, but it doesn't lather so you don't need a brush and tht's just not old school enough for most guys.

That's a very interesting question. I must admit that while creams a very rich and easy to use the soap is to me old school. Both are pretty good in fact I just ordered some Taylor Of OBS shaving cream last week. :)
I prefer cream over soap. The cream seems to lather quicker and is thick and rich. And it just feels better.
I use creams as well, soaps seems to leave my face dry feeling the rest of the day and I don't use aftershave
I use both, I think I like the soap more. It's all part of the wet-shaving ritual. Sure, you can use the fancier creams, but it's just not the same. If I could have only one, I'd say give me a mug and my soap cake! :D
Creams for me, currently working through a batch of Trumpers samples to see which I like best
Soaps I think. Soap is easier to get a consistent lather. When you have 15 different creams, you have to constantly adjust your water/cream ratio, etc. When you nail a cream lather, I'd say it's a wash between the soap and cream for the shave quality, but with soaps, it;s easy every time. Plus with creams you have more to clean up afterwards. Shelf life is a consideration as well. For you soap doubters, I challenge you to give D.R. Harris and T & H soaps a try. I have creams from every high end maker on the planet and I'd put either of those two soaps up against them any day.
