You mean apart from this? http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...-wool-fat.html
Gentlemen:
Max's review of Michell's Wool Fat is excellent. It says it all about this delightful shave soap. For heaven's sake, the puck is so densely packed that its lasts almost a century. Great stuff.
Regards,
Obie
It really does last. I am on my second puck of the MWF and even though I use it more than any other of my many soaps the first one lasted over a year. +1 on Max's stellar review.
Max's review was very good but he says that lanolin is the number one ingredient when in fact it is tallow which makes the soap harder and longer lasting. Lanolin is number 14 on the ingredients list. :)
Its good stuff, lasts ages, smells great and makes great lather..! Definately one of my favourites.
Spot on.
It is simply a very well made tallow soap with lanolin.
Well made and well balanced for shaving....
Do a web search for "saponification soap making"
note the "stable lather" and "Fluffy lather" columns on this link.
Saponification Table and Characteristics of Oils in Soap
This tells me that a mix of oils is needed....
This link tells a bit more about why lanolin is so low on the
list of ingredients and how Lanolin plays in MWF:
Properties of soapmaking oils | Summer Bee Meadow | Soapmaking knowledge and supplies for the handcrafted soap maker
Check out the coconut oil contribution to MWF
The Potassium Cocoate and Sodium Cocoate would be
drying if not for the Lanolin (IMO).
On the Coconut trail invest a buck fifty in a bar of Kirks soap.
Kirk's Original Coco Castile Soap.... note how quickly it lathers
even in hard water.
Oh and there is glycerin too. Many folk add extra glycerin when
lathering other soaps....
And the hidden part is the very small amount of fragrance
to the point that many do not notice it. IMO fragrance is
the most common source of irritants for a large part
of the population. Their subtle light hand on this component
may also be key.
Not the only well made shave soap by any measure,
but a good one.
Summary:
Well made and well balanced for shaving....
My hard water makes MWF a finicky soap which simply takes more effort to build a great lather. It shaves well, moisturizes well and I personally love the scent.
I don't wear colognes and rarely even use an after shave. However, IF the MWF scent were sold as a cologne or AS, I would absolutely buy it and use it as my signature scent. I've thought about emailing the company to find out of they've ever had designs to do that, but haven't had the time.
