classic shaving soap.. and should i believe everything corey greenburg says?

so i have been keeping a real open mind when trying new shaving products.. the ymmv thing really rings true.. i have had great success with williams soap and other brands that are not generally held in high regard..

anyway.. when reading posts about classic shaving's soap.. i failed to find any real positive reviews.. so i decided to just avoid it and worry about spending the little extra for others..

then i read shaveblog and corey greenburg talks so highly of classic shaving's soap.. i have to wonder.. was he advertising? or did he just have extremely different results than everyone else?

does anyone care to comment on classic shaving's soap? has anyone had a great deal of success with it.. and or.. is it high on their list of favourites?

what about shaveblog? any comments?

The 'new' formula they rolled out a little over a year ago-- I think-- was definitely an improvement...

...the price is nice...

...but I really can't say much for the function of the lather. I did like the citrus spice scent, though.

When I first started wetshaving (middle of last April), this was the first soap that I bought. It came with the mug I purchased from CS and I bought one extra. I got the Bay Rum scent. The scent was really enjoyable. When I was first using, of course, I had nothing else to compare it to except for an aerosol can of Edge.

I have since purchased a puck of MWF and this is as far as my soap expericence has gone. MWF is easier to lather and seems like it will last far longer than the puck of CS soap. I used the whole puck of it up in about one and a half months of daily shaving.

The CS soap seemed to provide adequate protection and but it is not has slick as MWF.

The price is very right though at about $4 I think. I will definitely use the second puck I got sometime in the future. Hope this helps.

I have a couple pucks of it, I don't think it is as bad as a lot of reviews make it out to be but it is also nothing special for the price. I can get decent lather and shave out of them but the scents are not very strong at all however some don't like overly strong scents ymmv.

For comparison I have both Classic, SRD, and TGQ soaps all in similar scents. TGQ scent is stronger and stays with me through the shave, SRD is even stronger. Classic is the only one that is very drying and seems like it doesn't provide any slickness at all which is okay for me in the summer time as I live in a humid area but I tend to stay away from it in winter. TGQ soap is about the same size cost is a few dollars more but it performs much better thick and more lubricating soap and for the same few dollars more you can get a tub of essential oil soap from SRD which really performs. When I ever use up my TGQ or SRD soaps they get replaced the classic soaps do not.


Note I am referring to the "Classic Shaving Mug Soap Large" and not the Classic wool fat soap.

I bought some Classic Shaving bay rum soap and while it smelled nice and the lather was only slightly better than the Col. Conk I was using, the stuff gave me a wicked allergic reaction. For the price, I would rank is as mediocre at best and the large puck is used up in about a month and a half. The smaller DR Harris puck has lasted three months and is not even half gone yet.

thank you all for the replies.. i have been thoroughly enjoying my sweet almond soap from soaptopia for the last few days.. i do plan on purchasing a wooden soap dish with my next order from classic shaving.. it comes with a free puck.. so i was thinking of getting vanilla..

if anything i can just use if for uberlather if i don't care for it on it's own..

i think i just have to take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt and try everything for myself..

I used it a little over a year ago but found the performance sadly lacking. I switched over to TGQ and have been there since. :beer1:

I'll take the lather over the scent any day. That's why I use the glycerin soaps most often, even those with no scent. I don't find the scent lasts. It's also why I avoid Willliams which in my opinion, though I'm probably in the minority, smells great. But the lather falls down. I can't speak to Classic Shaving asI haven't used theirs.

I've used the classic in the past and thought they were OK but nothing special at all. I found some burned. The newer premium soaps I don't like at all. Reminds me of a brushless cream.

i've used cs soap and did 'nt rate one bit no offense. it does iritate my skin and i have not got sensative skin. i now and always will use mwfs it my favourite and i've tryed every thing.
